Different Ways to Rock Denim

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

Jackets, jeans, overalls, and more. Denim is always a staple in any collegiette’s wardrobe. Denim is a timeless piece that you can dress  up or down, depending on your mood.

Here are seven ways to style denim that will help you from making fashion a faux paus.

1. Vintage Denim

This is totally one of the cutest trends out there! To create this look, throw on a vintage t-shirt and pair it with boyfriend or mom style jeans. Whether you keep it original, or decide to rock a pair that’s a little more distressed, with this Marty McFly inspired look you’re guaranteed to bring back all the ~old school vibes~.

2. Denim on Denim

While denim on denim was deemed the look of the 90’s, it seems to be making a comeback. While no one predicted this classic 90’s look being a trend today, there are so many ways you can give this style a modern update. One of our faves is wearing dark denim skinny jeans with a light denim shirt! For accessories, throw on a statement belt or a cute pair of sunglasses.

3. Overall Shorts/Dresses

This trend is so cute – if worn correctly. When wearing overall shorts or dresses, the top underneath should be tighter than the already baggy overalls. An off the shoulder top, like the one pictured above, paired with any type of shoe works extremely well with this look. Add some accessories like a choker or some sunnies, you are ready to ~slay the day~!

4. Denim Skirts

Denim skirts seem to be a must-have in every girl’s wardrobe. This look can be great for a night out or just a casual look. For a more casual outfit, pair that denim skirt with a white slouchy tee and sandals or a pair of Adidas sneakers. For an even more effortless look, throw your hair up into a messy ponytail and work that up do, own that ponytail!

5. Denim Jackets

With fall just around the corner, denim jackets will be the denim staple in most collegiette’s outfits. When the weather gets crisp, a chunky sweater paired with black skinnies and a cute denim jacket will definitely be your go-to outfit. Add a chunky scarf with ankle booties or a floppy hat and your outfit will be ~so fall~.

6. Patchwork/Embroidered Denim

This denim style is a recent trend and we’re totally fans of it – because who doesn’t love a piece of denim that looks DIY when actually it was store bought? You can find the patchwork or embroidered style on jeans, denim skirts, and even jean jackets. So, whatever way you choose to wear the patchwork/embroidery trend, own it girl!

7. Cropped Flared Jeans

Want a look that is chic, yet boho with a mix of the 70’s? Try cropped flared jeans! This fun style of denim can be paired with platform sandals and a white tunic top for a look that is put together but also perfect for everyday!

There are so many other ways to style denim, it’s impossible to cover them all! Whether it is distressed or classic, overalls or denim skirts, paired with Adidas sneakers or heels; denim can the possibilities are endless. Play around with it and see what looks you prefer best.
