According to the trending term Dad Bod, ripped stomachs and perfect pecs are out and slightly squishy midsections are in. If you haven’t notice, this trend has exploded on the Internet. Interestingly, the term “dad bod” has been around for a while. Urban Dictionary posted a definition of dad bod back in October 2009.  It has become so popular there is an Instagram account dedicated to it @collegedadbods.

So what exactly does “dad bod” mean? According to Mackenzie Pearson, who wrote the original piece for The Odyssey, “The dad bod is a nice balance between a beer gut and working out. The dad bod says, ‘I go to the gym occasionally, but I also drink heavily on the weekends and enjoy eating eight slices of pizza at a time.’” Men who are rocking the dad bod are those who exercise semi-regularly and have a healthy appetite for pizza and beer.

This recent body trends, evokes a positive phenomena when it comes to body types. The body pressures from the media affect not just women, but guys as well which society forgets about. According to the National Eating Disorder website, 15% to 43% of men are dissatisfied with their bodies, so this recent trend is endorsing a healthier view of what men’s bodies actually look like!

In addition, girls are in love with this recent trend of the dad bod. Having a man with a squishier midsection is the perfect cuddling companion and you guys can indulge in pizza and beet together!

Where is the female equivalent?

Where is the mom bod? Can you imagine a trend blowing up the Internet that tells women to just relax and let themselves go a little? The phrase “mom bod” conjures up images of what media so kindly calls a “post-baby body.” Recently, there have been women rejoicing about having curvy bodies, which we should all be doing more. Hello, era of the booty.

In the end, all bodies are wonderful!! So let’s celebrate them all, shall we?
