British Edition: Joe Martin ’17 and Ben Witcomb ’17

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

This week’s Campus Cutie is switching it up a little bit with this feature of “Campus Cuties: British Edition.” I couldn’t choose between these two roommates, but what could be better than a double, British accent interview? This duo will brighten up any room with their “cheeky” smiles and “jolly” personalities. Read on to learn more about these British heartthrobs.

Name: Joe Martin

Hometown: York, England

Major: Business (Undecided)

Campus Activities: Varsity Soccer

Relationship Status: Single

Name: Ben Whitcomb

Hometown: Liverpool, England

Major: Business (Undecided)

Campus Activities: Varsity Soccer

HC:  What’s the weirdest thing you’ve encountered in America?

Joe Martin: Bloody hell, there are so many, but the weirdest thing would be seeing guys wearing Nike running shoes, with Nike mid calves, and as you Americans call them khakis. To top it all off, they add a snapback and Beats around their neck… that’s weird. Trainers (sneakers) with decent clothes? I don’t get it.

Ben Whitcomb: I saw someone in Barone the other day make eggs and than poured syrup over them. Syrup over your eggs…with bacon… syrup on bacon…so weird.

HC: What’s one thing you wish could bring to Fairfield from England?

JM: Tea, biscuits, and crumpets.

BW:  A pair of skinny jeans with a button down, fastened to the top.

HC: You guys brought that look here?

Both: Of course, we did!

HC: Blondes or Brunettes? *Flips hair*

JM: Brunettes.

BW: I’m not picky.

HC: What do you look for in a girl?

JM: Potential green card (laughs), funny personality, and a genuinely nice person.

BW:  Acrylic nails, good personality, and nice eyes.

HC:  As roommates and best friends, there must be an embarrassing secret you can tell us about the other?

(JM to Ben: I could kill you.)

JM: Hmm, Ben spends too much time in front of the mirror, fixing his hair and flexing his muscles.

BW: Joe walks around naked a lot in the room.

JM: You just made all the girls reading this picture me naked. (*High-five each other*)

HC: Celebrity Crush?

JM:  Pippa Middleton.

BW: Mila Kunis.

HC: Favorite movie?

Both: The Vow.

HC: If you had to listen to one song the rest of your life what would it be?

JM: “Waves” by Robin Schulz.

BW: “Beautiful People” by Chris Brown.

HC: If you had to choose a theme song for the other what would it be?

JM: Anything deep and sketchy. Some sort of weird house music.

BW: “Sex Bomb” by Tom Jones

HC: Favorite Americanized word?

JM: Soccer.

BW: “Sup Bro” or “Sup Man.”

HC: Joe, describe Ben in three words

JM: Scouser, Spongebob-esque (reference to hair), aggressive.

HC: Ben, describe Joe in three words:

BW:  Teabag (he loves tea), clean, and stubborn.

HC: Most frequently used emoji?

JM: Frog and teacup.

BW: The kissy face.

HC: Where do you see yourself in ten years?

JM:  The Hamptons, married, just chilling, listening to house music.

BW: In America, on Wall Street, and married.

HC: Last, but not least, give me your best pick-up line?

JM: “Hello, you alright love? (Hoping she likes the accent.)

BW:  Are you from Tennessee? Because you’re the only ten-I-see.
