A Clueless star saving money, an A-list actor taking a shift at Dunkin, and the heartwarming story of a dog’s journey. All of these describe some of the most popular commercials that aired this past Sunday during the Superbowl. This year the ads came packed with entertainment, but some stood out more than others. Here’s some of the most popular picks.
Popcorners Breaking Good:
This ad was a reunion between Breaking Bad stars Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul. The famous television series is widely known and is still talked about after its end in 2013. The commercial represented a parody of the show and had the two characters wanting more bags of the popular chip brand. This ad has been trending all over social media, and its buzz is apparent.
Rakuten: Not-So Clueless:
Ugh, as if! This iconic ode to the 1995 classic, Clueless is perfectly done. The ad stars Alicia Silverstone reprising her iconic role as Cher and shows the character’s love for shopping with a modern way to save. She discusses how to use Rakuten and the cash back you get from shopping at different stores.
Dunkin Donuts: Ben Affleck Drive Thru:
For Dunkin’s first Superbowl commercial ever, this one didn’t disappoint. This ad stars Ben Affleck returning to his Massachusetts roots by serving customers at a Dunkin in Medford, Massachusetts. This ad is humorous and even features a surprise appearance from Jennifer Lopez at the end.
General Motors and Netflix | Why Not an EV?:
Automobile ads always seem to be the majority of commercials on TV. They typically show a perfect road that the car is traveling on or a family going on a trip. However, this ad went above and beyond with General Motors’ partnership with Netflix. It stars Will Ferrell using his humor to talk about how Netflix is using electric vehicles in their shows and movies. He shows the car through a parody of different shows, from Bridgerton to Stranger Things.
Bud Light Hold, Easy to Drink Easy to Enjoy:
Unless you lived under a rock this past year, you know that Top Gun: Maverick was the summer’s blockbuster. Miles Teller’s shirtless beach scene filled up TikTok ForYou pages everywhere. In this ad, Teller and his wife Keleigh are put on hold by customer service. The customer service music can aggravate most people, but the Teller’s find a way to poke fun while they wait.
The Farmer’s Dog: Forever:
Nothing tugs at the heartstrings like seeing an ad with a dog. This ad shows a dog and a girl as she goes through different journeys in life, like adolescence, starting college, and raising a family. It talks about how the most important thing in life is time and displays the importance of the love between animals and humans. The brand promotes its product as a way to give dogs a healthy life by having a commitment to creating fresh food.
There were a lot of memorable ads this year that made commercial breaks more bearable during the game. I hope you enjoyed watching these ads as much as I did.
