As harsh inters are becoming more common, people are investing on winter jackets. One brand that has become increasingly popular in recent years is Canada Goose. The company’s jackets hold a pretty steep price tag, and many of them can cost you upwards of $600. Celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow, Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield have been pictured in these parkas. Kate Upon was even photographed on the cover of Sports Illustrated wearing nothing but a white Canada Goose parka.
Clearly this brand is making its mark, but is it worth the investment? Prior to late 2013, Canada Goose was incredibly popular in Canada and Europe, but the brand didn’t have a strong following in the US. In early December 2013, Governor Mitt Romney made a huge investment in the company, helping them break into the US market with full force. Since becoming such a popular brand in the US, Canada Goose has gained a loyal following, especially among celebrities, but why?
According to Canada Goose, the brand manufactures the jackets with only the highest quality of materials. The hood is lined with coyote fur because this type of fur doesn’t freeze or collect water, and it protects your face from losing body heat. For the insulation of the coat, they choose only the best down insulation technology to guarantee a warm jacket, while still maintaining its lightweight feature.
Last January, ABC News featured Canada Goose as a wise investment piece that could benefit customers in the long run because of their long lasting durability. Canada Goose jackets will most likely out live any jacket that has a lower sticker price, and if it doesn’t the company offers a lifetime guarantee on its products.
Although the quality of these jackets seems to be among the highest of the competition, we’re still left with the question is it worth the value? These coats are designed to handle the coldest and harshest winters. Unless you plan to be in negative degree weather, I don’t really see the coat being worth the investment for everyday wear. But if you can afford it and want to be extra warm walking around campus while looking like a celebrity, then I say, why not?
