A$AP Rocky is Over Fashion Brand “Hood By Air”

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

A$AP Rocky has been a fashion connoisseur since his first days as a MC. Although his music might not be for everyone, no one can deny that he owns his rather eclectic style.

Rocky’s most recent track and video release is “Multiply”. The rapper is known to be lyrically controversial; in “Multipy” he unveiled the biggest rapper-designer beef since Kanye and Hedi Slimane- also known as, Kanye v. Dior.

To back track, Rocky has been the unofficial face of popular street wear brand, Hood By Air (HBA) since it’s launch. He’s personally worked with Shayne Oliver, the brains behind the label, to bring HBA to the masses, as well as to the likes of Drake and Rihanna. A$AP Rocky even walked in HBA’s debut fashion show at New York Fashion Week. Many would assume that the icon’s allegiance to HBA would be for life, but Rocky’s lyrics in his recent release, Multiply, say otherwise, “HBA sh*t is weak, you can keep that/ I’m a trendsetter you ain’t even peeped that”.

What is the reasoning behind this very public breakup? It wasn’t HBA, it was Rocky. He’s an artist inside and outside of the booth. He has worked to embed himself not only in the world of music but also in fashion, and he’s moving to find next big thing. His innovation has sparked change to the mainstream world many times before. This Fashion Killa is on to his next endeavor and I believe we should all be down for the ride.
