9 Fun St. Patty’s Day Drinks

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

St. Patty’s day is a favorite of college students across America, especially those who are 21 and over.  If you’re of legal age, here are some fun and flirty ways you can spice up your drinks this March 17th!

1. Irish Coffee

We all roll out of bed extremely early on St. Patrick’s Day to do our hair and makeup before making our way to the festivities. This drink features a necessity for surviving a day full of parades: coffee!  It is simple to make – only requiring coffee, your choice of Irish whiskey or Bailey’s, and maybe some sugar and chocolate shavings on the top if you want to dress it up a little bit.

2. Green Beer

Just about everything is green on St. Patrick’s day, so why shouldn’t our beer be too? Green beer is super easy to make – just mix beer and green food coloring.  To get a really vibrant green, you may want to use a lighter colored beer such as a pale ale, but to get that authentic Irish taste I would definitely recommend Guinness.

3. Irish Car Bomb

Irish Car Bombs are so fun to make.  Fill a shot glass with Bailey’s and Jameson,  and fill another glass about ¾ of the way full of Guinness.  Then get all your friends in a line, countdown from three, drop the shot glass straight into the Guinness and drink the mixture.

4. Guinness and Green Jell-O Shot

Guinness will most certainly be a reoccurring drink for St. Patrick’s Day, seeing as though it is the Irish beer. The first layer of this themed drink is a gelatin mix of Guinness and Irish whiskey, and top is green gelatin with Irish cream.  It’s a fun holiday spin on a typical Jell-O shot!

5. Green Dublin Apple Cocktail

Now, we can’t all be huge beer fanatics. For those of you who would rather drink a cocktail and typically feel stuck on St. Patrick’s day, we have you covered too. This fun twist on the beloved green apple martini substitutes Irish whiskey for vodka, and also includes white cranberry juice to make the drink a little sweeter (and a little greener).

6. Irish Cactus

If your drink of choice no matter the holiday or the occasion is Tequila, you can have the best of both worlds on March 17th.  Served on the rocks, Irish Cactus is mostly made of Irish cream so you can choose which ever brand you prefer and then just add tequila! Don’t knock it before you try it.

7. Irish Flag

You can rep all the Irish colors in this fun shooter.  Simply just layer Irish cream, green crème de menthe, and Licor 43 to make the flag in your glass.

8. Irish Hammer

This shot is pretty easy to make, blending Jack Daniel’s Tennessee whiskey, Irish Mist, and Irish cream. The Irish Mist incorporates honey and caramel for those of you with a sweet tooth.

9. Sour Apple Jolly Rancher Vodka

This is not technically a drink, but it is super fun to make! Buy a liter of vodka. Then, take about 12 sour apple jolly ranchers for every 8 oz and put them in a container. Fill the container with your vodka. Let them sit for about 12-24 hours, then let them chill for a little bit. You’ll have green vodka that tastes like a jolly rancher which is totally a win-win on St. Patty’s Day!
