1. These boys aren’t hot and mature. Aren’t college boys supposed to be hot and mature?Sadly, not all college boys look like Zac Efron and Dave Franco in Neighbors. It’s OK if you don’t meet the man of your dreams off of the bat. After all, you go to college to meet your bridesmaids not your husband, am I right?
2. Sh*t. College is hard.Yes, it’s completely different than high school and you’re facing new challenges. At college it’s easy to ignore the homework and head to a party. It’s challenging, but you’ll adjust in time. Stay organized, and know that almost every girl in your building is feeling a little nauseous about that paper due next week.
3. Everyone else looks like they are having so much fun at school, am I having that much fun? Facebook and Instagram are the places people go to make their lives look the cOoLeSt~* and you’re probably doing a good job at it yourself. If your friends from high school are blowing up your news feed with photos of them with their big and grand-big, it’s OK to wish you had that. Keep in mind though, that when you post a photo of your darty at the beach, you’ve made some of your friends envious too. In the end, it’s not a competition that is whose life looks more fun than whose. There will be fun nights and lame nights, but the fun nights always outweigh the lame nights whether they make it on to social media or not.
4. I literally can’t take my roommate right now.Get used to it. Even when you live with your best friends, there are going to be battles. I mean, really, at home didn’t your parents get on your nerves at times? It’s life. And who knows, in ten years, you might have a really good book deal out of all the craziness you experienced with that particular roommate.
5. I don’t know if this major is for me. To be honest, there’s a good chance it might not be. If you’re not passionate about something, you don’t have to pursue it. That being said, in every discipline there will be challenges, so don’t give up right away. Do know that you have time to explore your options, and your major will come to you.
6. I miss my mom, my dad, and my dog.We have a funny way of realizing how amazing our parents and our pets are when we aren’t near them. It happens to all of us and there’s nothing wrong with that. When you’re missing them, treat yourself to something that reminds you of them! If you are missing your mom’s pasta and meatballs, head to Centro and have a taste of home.
7. I think I might transfer. If I had a penny for every time I heard this when I was a freshman, I would be rich; if I had a penny for every person who actually transferred, I would be poor. Allow yourself to find your place in the Fairfield University community. I would be lying if I told you I didn’t apply to transfer to other schools. It’s okay to know you’re options, but don’t let one problem sway you. Get involved! I decided to stay at Fairfield University, and I co-founded Her Campus Fairfield with Amanda McKelvey, who was also considering transferring. It’s okay to feel like you might want to leave, but know that there are so many opportunities waiting for you if you stay.
