7 Essentials You Need For Your School Bag

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

With a new semester and school year upon us, it’s hard to remember the important essentials that are needed in our school bags. Being collegiates, there are a wide variety of necessities that are substantial components for a successful day of classes.

With that in mind, I’ve put together a list of the essentials I keep in my school bag. Here they are…

1. Bag

This one goes without saying. Purchasing a cute yet practical bag is the foundation to the back-to-school routine. It’s very important to find a bag that will be big enough to hold your books and laptop and of course looks stylish. My favorite is C. Wonder’s Printed Easy Tote.

Printed Easy Tote, C.Wonder (Available at cwonder.com), $88

2. Sunglasses

Especially during the awkward transition from summer to fall, sunglasses really do go a long way. Tory Burch has great options that match any outfit. Tory’s durable sunglass case also ensures the safety of your sunnies.

Modern T-Sunglasses, Tory Burch (Available at shopbop.com), $165

3. Lip Balm and Hand Lotion

Eos Lip Balm is my nourishing and inexpensive go-to balm throughout the day because no one has time for chapped lips. A mini lotion, for example, L’Occitane’s travel sized hand lotion is perfect for moments of dry-skin emergencies.

Strawberry Sorbet Smooth Sphere, Eos (Available at amazon.com), $4.90

Hand Cream, L’Occitane (Available at Sephora.com), $12

4. Snack

A healthy snack is key to the success of your day, especially when you are walking all over campus to get to your classes. Luna Bar’s come in all types of amazing flavors, like S’Mores and Chocolate Peanut Butter (to name a few).  All natural and delicious, they will keep you full for your busy day of class.

5. Agenda

If you’re anything like me, my agenda is my life. A good planner aids in organization and keeps you on top of work. Lily Pulitzer makes them in great prints and with cute features, making it a fashionable way to stay organized.

Agenda, Lily Pulitzer (Available at lilypulitzer.com), $34

6. Hair ties

Underrated but necessary, hair ties are a great necessity to have on hand. Ones that avoid denting your hair, like J.Crew Elastic Hair Ties, come in great colors and options.

Elastic Hair Tie Pack, J.Crew (Available at jcrew.com), $12

 7. Notebooks

How else would we jot down information in class?! A great tip to stay organized is having a separate notebook for each class, so when it is time to study you will know where all your notes are for that class.

Wire-bound Notebook, Five Star (Available at amazon.com), $6.59

Gabriella is currently a junior at Fairfield University, where she is majoring in Marketing and minoring in Communications. She is Co-Campus Correspondent of Her Campus Fairfield with her roomie/best friend Pamela Grant! Gab can most likely be found with a Venti Starbs in hand, while wearing obnoxiously large sunnies (no shame), reading the most recent issue of Glamour Mag.
Amanda McKelvey is a Co-Campus Correspondent and a senior at Fairfield University. She is a Journalism major with minors in Psychology and Communications. In addition to being a CC she has held internships with Michael Kors, CollegeFashionista.com and the Rockville Centre and Baldwin Heralds. In her free time, Amanda enjoys days on the beaches of Long Island, watching Scandal, Chicago Fire and the Bachelorette, eating anything sweet (chocolate, ice cream, cupcakes—you name it!) and reading a good book. She’s excited to spend her senior year living at Fairfield Beach with her best friends including fellow CC Danielle Tullo! You can follow her on Twitter @theAMANDAshowww or on Instagram @ammckelvey.
