Now that it’s the social norm for parents to participate in social media, it’s evident that Facebook should come with an instruction manual. Although most parents like to think that they are social media pros or refer to themselves as an ā€œinternet wiz,ā€ it is clear to those of us in younger generations that they are not. One click onto a parent’s Facebook page and you will most likely find dozens of photos of their children along with a overly detailed caption. Sometimes all you can do is laugh. You do you, Mom!

1. Ā Posts Extremely Long StatusesĀ In this day and age, most people do not post statuses unless it is to say something important, like if you get accepted into a college or recently had a big achievement that your dying to tell the world. However, most parents seemed to have missed the memo that posting a paragraph-long detailed status about their day is so 2009. If you want to say something quick, that is what Twitter is for! Jeez, Mom!

2. Ā Comments on Pictures Your Tagged InParent’s love being super involved in their children’s lives and social media is the perfect outlet that allows them to have live updates on your life. This includes a front row seat to all your pictures that you are tagged in. Everyone has had that one relative or parent that comments on some random acquaintance’s picture of you. It may be embarrassing but it’s the thought that counts. Plus, who’s complaining about a couple more ā€˜likes’ or positive comments on their profile picture?

Ā

3. Ā Posts Embarrassing Pictures of the FamilyEvery parent, at some point, has posted that embarrassing family photo from 2004 from your awkward stage. Caption: ā€œMiss those days! My babies are all grown up!ā€ …And if they’re savvy enough there might even be a #throwbackThursday included. Although it might be slightly humiliating, there is a 100% guarantee that picture will get more likes than your last picture posted on Instagram. So just suck it up and relish in all of the compliments from your Mom’s friends. It also wouldn’t be your mother if she weren’t embarrassing you with old photos.

Ā

4.Ā Posts A Message As a Status By AccidentThe amount of times that a parent or relative has posted a status that was clearly meant for an individual is surprisingly high. There’s also the horrifying reality of when an adult attempts to search for someone’s profile and accidentally makes the name their status. Can technology really be that confusing? At any rate, all is forgiven, I am sure that it was a ā€œreally easy mistakeā€ā€¦you will get the hang of it eventually.

5.Ā Posting Pictures of Food/ BeveragesA strange trend that parents have accepted as ā€œnormalā€ is posting pictures of their food and drinks. First of all, parents do not understand that Facebook is not Instagram and it is not normal to post your every meal on Facebook… especially when it’s the farthest thing from artsy. But whatever floats your boat, Mom and Dad!

Ā

6.Ā Posting SelfiesApparently it is the new ā€œcool thingā€ to do for adults, which it too funny, until your parents join the trend.

7.Ā Trying to Give AdviceSince parents are older, they oftentimes want to share their wise words of wisdom with Facebook. Although some motivational posts might not be so bad, the inspirational quotes and words of advice are a little too deep for Facebook. But thanks, Dad…I’ll keep that in mind.
