6 Tips for Your Best Zoom Presentation

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

Remote learning has brought presentation anxiety to a whole new level. No one likes being alone in their room with a webcam on, talking to a group of people you can’t really see, ESPECIALLY if you are camera shy. Don’t worry, here are 6 tips to help you through your best zoom presentation!

1.Make it interactive!

If you’re shy or nervous, get the attention off of you for a few minutes. Try a Kahoot or Socrative quiz to keep the audience engaged and test if they’re paying attention! I’m sure they would appreciate that more than lecturing!

2.Organize your notes!

Take advantage of your privacy. No one is there to tell you that you can only have one notecard to guide you through your presentation, organize all your notes, and have them in a convenient place on your screen or desk, so you don’t lose your train of thought!

3.Look presentable!

Don’t show up in your favorite sweats just because no one can see your bottoms. Dress as you would for an in-person presentation. You’ll feel more put together and confident going into the zoom. Look good, feel good!

4.Clean up behind you!

No one wants to look at a cluttered mess behind you during your presentation. Go to a nice, clean, well-lit part of your house, so the focus is all on you! You are the spotlight!

5.Prepare your technology!

Make sure you’re going into your presentation with strong Wi-Fi and no interruptions, so it does not cut out or distract you! Test your video and audio as well so that all your settings are on point, and make sure your computer is CHARGED!

6.Rehearse and breathe!

Practice makes perfect! Go through the presentation a few times to rehearse the material, even practice with your roommates and family members if you want. Then BREATHE, it is going to go great!

Presentations can be scary but remember, everyone is in the same boat. Take a deep breath and go crush it! Start with a fun hook! :)
