6 Things To Do in CT This Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

There are so many reasons to love fall. It’s the return of the beloved pumpkin spice latte, sweater weather, and the holiday season is right around the corner. We are especially lucky to go to school in Fairfield, because nowhere does fall like New England does fall. Connecticut takes full advantage of all things autumn related, so here are the must do local activities for fall.

1. Go for a hayride and apple picking at Silverman’s Farm

When you think of fall activities, apple picking is most likely one of the first to come to mind. Silverman’s Farm is located in Easton CT, which is a short drive away. Even though you can pretty much do any fall activity here, this is the go-to apple picking farm of Fairfield County. Gather up some of your friends, and head over to Silverman’s Farm to pick some apples, go for a hay ride and don’t forget to get one of the famous apple cider donuts. At the very least, I guarantee you will get a great Insta picture.

2. Get lost in a corn maze

Another incredibly fun fall activity is going on an adventure with your closest friends in a corn maze. Plasko’s Farm, in Trumbull, has a huge maze that you WILL get lost in, but that is half the fun! This year’s maze is shaped like a dragon, and opened for the season on September 12th. Head over to Plasko’s if you feel like you can handle it!

3. Check out a local farmers’ market

After a few weeks you are bound to get sick of Barone food, so why not check out the local Black Rock Farmers’ Market right down the road in Bridgeport. There are only a few months left to enjoy locally grown produce before the arctic tundra hits.

4. Go on a haunted hayride or haunted trail

When you think fall you think Halloween; they go hand and hand. Gather up a group of your most adventurous friends, and head over to Fairview Farms in Shelton for a night full of fright. Fairview Farms works year-round to provide a mile long haunted walking trail and one and half mile hayride that is guaranteed to keep you up at night. If you have no fear this is a must-not-miss event of the fall.

5. Take a walk down North Benson into town

You do not have to even leave campus to experience what fall in Connecticut has to offer. The fall foliage that appears around campus is absolutely breathtaking. Take a walk down North Benson into town, hit up Starbucks for a pumpkin spice latte and enjoy Fairfield. This is a prime opportunity for the “my school is better than yours” Snapchat story.

6. Have a pumpkin picking party

We all know that one of the most memorable fall activities as a kid was carving pumpkins. Just because we’re in college does not mean we have to give up some of our favorite fall pass times. If you feel the desire to pick your own pumpkins, Silverman’s Farm has a pumpkin patch too. If getting off-campus is hard, head to Stop and Shop and grab some pumpkins for a jack-o’-lantern carving party.
