6 Reasons Why You’re Breaking Out

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

Coming from a girl who is all too familiar with breakouts, there can be a million factors causing these pesky pimples. They always seem to come at the most important times, like right before the weekend or the day you were planning to go makeup free. But if you can find out what may be causing your breakouts, it will make it that much easier to prevent them.

1. You Sleep With Your Makeup On

A beauty rule that I live by is never sleep with your makeup on. Whether you’ve been studying for hours or had a long night out, just keep some makeup wipes by your bed to be sure your face is clean before you sleep. Your skin will feel a lot cleaner in the morning and prevents your makeup from clogging your pores.

2. Dirty Makeup Brushes

Speaking of makeup, try to keep your makeup brushes clean. When you are constantly using your brushes, dirt and bacteria is bound to build up on them. Get into the habit of giving them a deep clean with dish soap.

3. Stress

It seems to be a normal emotion for us collegiettes, but that stress can sometimes show on your skin too. Try to find some time to relax. This will benefit not only your skin, but also your sanity.

4.Alcohol and a Poor Diet

This one may be hard to hear, but alcohol could be causing your breakouts. A poor diet in general can have a negative impact on your skin, along with sugary cocktails. If you seem to breakout after a weekend of indulging, drinking might be the culprit.

5.The Clothes You’re Wearing

If your breakouts are concentrated on your back, the explanation might be your sports bra.  After a sweaty workout and wearing a sports bra tight to your back, the sweat sits there and builds up, possibly leading to the dreaded “bacne”. Just be sure to take it off and shower right when you’re done working out.

6.Touching Your Face

I know I’m guilty of this one, hands on the face. Our hands aren’t always the cleanest surface when their touching phones, railings and such. So make sure you’re constantly washing them, and even better than that? Don’t touch your face at all! Keeping a bottle of hand sanitizer in your bag can also come in handy.
