There truly is nothing better than a home cooked meal, and truth be told; Barone is the furthest thing from a meal your Mom would make. Although Fairfield has tons of amazing restaurants and delis, none of them take meal swipes. As a college student it is almost impossible to be able to afford to go out to eat two to three times a day, and it is easy to get sick of ramen. Thankfully there are a few hacks to keep you from starving at Barone.
1. Just don’t go to Barone. Technically I’m kidding with this one, but if you do get a chance to skip Barone and head into town for food; I highly suggest it. If not, you are bound to find something there.
2. Veggies, veggies, veggies. The salad bar (which is also a Go-To in Barone) has tons of fresh veggie options. Everything from baby carrots to sliced onions are available on an everyday basis. You can make your meal more interesting by adding ranch or balsamic dressing on the side to dip into.
3. Get your peanut butter on…everything…literally. Barone has cute tiny packages of peanut butter near the butters and jams. You can literally put peanut butter on anything and turn into into a meal. My personal favorite would be on toast, with bananas for an added touch.
4. Avocado please! If it was up to me, a whole avocado is a meal all on its own. However, if you go to the sandwich station you can ask for an avocado to put on toast, salad, or even to make guacamole with!
5. Fried rice for days. Thankfully along with a stacked salad bar, Barone always has rice and grilled chicken on hand. The stir-fry station allows you to make yourself a bowl of fried rice right away. Just cut up some chicken, add veggies and some sauces; then mix at the stir fry station—you will have an easy and filling meal in minutes.
And if all else fails….
6. Ice cream for dinner. It does not matter how old you are, ice cream for dinner will always be an option. Especially when Barone is your only option.
