5 Trends from Bridal Week: Spring 2015

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

This year’s Spring Bridal Week brought us a slew of new trends as well as modern takes on some of the most classic designs. No matter what kind of style a bride is looking for in a dress this year, they will be sure to find a perfect fit from the collections featured at Spring 2016 Bridal Week. It is always fun to look at wedding dresses. Plus, it is never too early for us collegiates to start thinking about the dress we would want to wear on our special day.

Traditional Dresses:Many of the gowns featured at Bridal Week were reminiscent of those that our mothers may have worn on their wedding day, including gowns with sleeves and lace detailing. Our favorite royal, Kate Middleton, may be credited with bringing back this trend as her iconic wedding dress featured long lace sleeves and a modest neckline. These gowns are classy, showing off ladies curves in all the right ways. This just shows that traditional dresses will always be in style.

The Cut Out Trend:

Designers also demonstrated how to show off one’s body modestly in a wedding dress. They designed dresses with cutouts to showcase the bride’s assets. While the ultra low back trend has been carried over season after season, lace panels and (mostly) tasteful cutouts are recently making an appearance down the bridal runways. Galia Lahav (pictured below right) took this trend to the extreme with strategically placed panels covering parts of the bod the bride does not want seen.

Lingerie Before the Honeymoon:Many of the dresses at Bridal Week resembled lingerie without looking too risqué. The return of the 90’s inspired fashion brings us body contouring and corset-topped ball gowns.  While some might consider this trend questionable for a walk down the church isle, there is no denying that this lingerie style wedding dress is a unique fashion statement.

Prints Galore:This season also featured many gowns with watercolor prints. This trend is perfect for the bride looking for more ways to express herself on her big day. Brides need to be careful of the colors they pick for their wedding, because the last thing she wants is for her dress to clash with their surroundings.

Pants?!Pantsuits can bring just as much elegance to a bride on her wedding day as a gown. This season featured elegant tuxedo inspired looks as well as jumpsuits with lace.

This year’s Bridal Week made it easier for the bride to find her perfect dress for the bride’s style, the ceremony, the venue and the feeling she is trying to create on her special day.
