5 Movies We Can’t Wait to See This Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

There are numerous reasons to be excited about this upcoming fall as the leaves start to turn and Halloween quickly approaches. One reason being that Fall is a great time for movies! There’s something for everyone, whether you’re a fan of heartfelt movies, thrillers or comedies.

So ladies, grab your pumpkin spice lattes and hit the theaters because you’re definitely going to want to see these movies! Here are 5 movies in particular that are bound to be fall favorites.

1. A Simple Favor

Blake Lively can do no wrong, which is exactly why this psychological thriller is set to be amazing! Just like the book the movie is based on, the film is set in New York City and is focused around the disappearance of Lively’s character Emily, which gives off crazy Serena van der Woodsen ~vibes~. Our new favorite hottie Henry Golding from Crazy Rich Asians plays her husband and everyone’s favorite Barden Bella, Anna Kendrick, plays her bestie! Here’s the trailer for a sneak peek before you go see the movie on September 14th!

2. White Boy Rick

Alright alright alright! Matthew McConaughey lovers, this movie is for you! The film is centered around the real-life story of Rick Wershe, a 14-year-old wrapped up in the Detroit drug trade. The crime thriller will be sure to keep you on the edge of your seat and there is no doubt Richie Merritt, who plays White Boy Rick, is going to be the next breakout star. Whatever McConaughey touches becomes an instant hit so check it out before all the buzz by watching the trailer here.

3. Venom

Venom is set to be a box office hit starring none other than Tom Hardy (need I say more?). He plays Eddie Brock, an investigative journalist who becomes a host for an alien, giving him incredible super powers. In 2007, Venom was depicted in Spider-Man 3, but don’t expect Peter Parker to show up anytime soon, as this movie will be altering the character’s origins a bit. Woody Harrelson is set to star alongside Hardy in the upcoming film and Eminem is supposed to be featured on the soundtrack. Marvel fans can get ready for the October 5th premiere by watching the trailer here.

4. A Star Is Born

Get ready for the dynamic duo we never knew we needed. A Star is Born is going to be hands-down the best movie of the year, which is why you should watch the trailer here! Bradley Cooper makes his directorial debut as he also stars with none other than Lady Gaga in this remake of a classic. Unfortunately for us, Gaga won’t be wearing a rendition of her iconic MTV Video Awards meat dress. But, we do see a softer, more natural side to her that we haven’t seen before. The chemistry between these two is undeniable and the soundtrack is going to reach the top of the charts, especially with Cooper’s sultry singing voice!

5. Halloween

Welcome home Michael! Get ready for some sleepless nights as the movie Halloween comes to theaters on October 19th. You can watch the trailer beforehand here. The long-awaited reboot features Jamie Lee Curtis after almost 40 years since the original came out. Curtis reprises her role as Laurie Strode, the sole survivor of Michael’s killing spree, who is an overprotective mother and grandmother. The film recently premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and the reviews have all been extremely positive, making the movie seem worth the watch.
