As a collegiette you are no stranger to stress. Between school work, meeting with professors, hanging out with friends, participating in clubs, working out, eating, and getting coffee (of course), finding a balance can always be a struggle. Next time you are feeling stressed and as if the whole world is crashing down around you, take a look at these tips and pick which one works best for you!
1. WorkoutThe situation: You have just finished classes and now have to make time to eat and prepare to spend the rest of the day in the library until you crash and you are convincing yourself that you have no time to workout as you are walking to Starbucks to grab an iced coffee.
The solution: When you know that you have a busy day ahead of you make it a goal to workout. Whether it is a set of abs for 10 minutes or a full hour-long workout, it is the key to success for any collegiette! Not only will you let go of the stress from your classes and the day, but you will also feel replenished and energized as you get the adrenaline and blood pumping throughout your body and brain, allowing you to study and work to the best of your potential! 2. Grab a Healthy SnackThe Situation: You are so stressed and overwhelmed after running around all day across campus with a million thoughts racing through your head as you try to forget about the rough morning (or night) you had. All you want to do is get all of your tasks done and the last thing you are thinking about is what you are going to have to eat. There’s nothing worse than not being able to focus on everything you have to do while your stomach is making weird noises in a quiet library because of all the pizza you downed or the fact that you feel gross sitting for hours with the remnants of the Easy Mac and Ramen noodles you had today.
The Solution: Granola bars are a collegiettes’ best friend! Stock up your dorm room with different flavored granola bars as well as keep at least 3 in your bag at all times. Pick up some Nature Valley, Special K, or Luna bars on your next food-shopping trip! If you have more time and can get to the cafeteria, stick with fruit and make a yogurt parfait or a salad to keep you full, fueled, and ready to take on your work! 3. Take a BreakThe Situation: Your stress level is off the charts. You have reached the limit where you are experiencing mini panic attacks thinking about the papers due this week, the tests you have to study for, the 50 pages of notes you have to take, the clubs you want to attend, the sleep you haven’t gotten, the friend drama that seems to be hanging over your head, and worst of all, you couldn’t do option 1 by working out or option 2 by eating healthy to de- stress, and here you are sitting at the computer procrastinating like it’s your job.
The Solution: You have to stop, take a break, and breathe. When you reach this stress level, the best thing to do is to take a step back and prioritize what you have to do first and foremost before you worry about the rest. If you are inside, go outside and get some fresh air, take a deep breath, make a plan of what you are going to start first, and then begin again. Only keep one subject’s textbooks and notebooks on your desk at a time so you won’t get overwhelmed and after you finish each subject, take another break. This break can be anywhere from 2- 5 minutes but it is necessary.  If you can’t get outside, take a break by checking out Her Campus’s Sh*t Collegiettes Say Pinterest page and enjoy some comic relief but remember its just a break…. You do still have to study after.
