So here you are collegiettes; you are supposedly living out the best years of your life. Everyone tells you day in and day out to make it count because before you know it, it’s going to be over. First there’s freshman year- when people say it will fly by, you laugh it off. Then, before you know it, you are a sophomore having to declare a major and then a junior having to apply for an internship and finally, a senior getting ready for continued education or worse…. actually becoming a real adult and working.

Now, of course you are going to get wrinkles and your hair is going to turn gray eventually, but before you start cursing everyone who told you it goes by fast, take a look at these 3 reasons why you should love getting older!

1. You Can Make Your Dreams a Reality

When you get older, your dreams and ambitions quickly transform from wanting to be a princess (unless you’re Kate Middleton) to wanting a career that will bring you happiness and success. You no longer have to scour through website postings of internships and jobs wishing you were old enough to apply and begin your future. Now you can take action and make it happen. This is the time when as you get older, as you are sitting in bed at night thinking about your future, and realize that can actually turn your dreams into a reality.

2. You Learn to Appreciate the Little Things

As you get older, you begin to realize that it’s not the grandest gestures that happen every now and then that bring happiness, but the little things in life that warm your soul and brighten your day. It’s a cup of coffee in the morning, reading a book on a rainy day, watching five consecutive seasons of a show on Netflix, and bundling up on a cold day to nap in the winter by the fire. When you get older you begin to appreciate these little moments of pure bliss and start to wonder how it has taken you so long to appreciate these little joys.

3. People Begin to Look Up to You

Growing up there has always been someone who has inspired you along the way- whether it be an older friend or a mentor. Whoever it is, this person has helped shape you into who you are at this very moment. As you get older, you become wiser and more mature with exposure to different situations and experiences. For better or for worse, those situations have been key points along your journey to success. Even if you don’t realize it yet, the fact that you have a smile on your face at the end of the day makes you a role model to those younger than you. Through your successes and failures you will learn valuable lessons and when someone younger comes knocking on your door you will have all of the honest advice to answer with.
