17 Signs You Are A Graduating Senior

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

1. You have little to no idea what you want to do with your life after college. You started college as an accounting major and quickly realized that wasn’t for you. Now as a graduating English major you hardly know if you even want to do that anymore…can someone just send us a sign here please?!

2. You run and hide any time an email pops up with a subject line regarding graduation. You see the words “graduating senior,” “apply for graduation” or “senior week tickets” and immediately let out a horrified scream and hide under your covers hoping that if you ignore it, it will just delete itself.

3. You have at least one panic attack a week. Between classes, applying for jobs, and your current internship you are beyond stressed. Your philosophy teacher keeps assigning these silly response papers due each class–doesn’t she know that you’re busy trying to get your life together? Not now professor.

4. You talk to the career counselor more than you talk to your own mom. Between helping you search for jobs, discussing you life’s path and sending them two or three cover letters to look over each day, you might as well have them on speed dial. With all of the things that they do for you, you practically want to hug them…that’s normal right? …right?

 5. You start thinking about “the last times”. As a graduating senior you can’t help but get nostalgic. Sure sometimes you get a little carried away when you say things like “This is the last time I’ll talk to the librarian” but who can blame you? The thought of leaving school has gotten you a little nutty and very, very sappy.

6. You no longer care about impressing people when you go out. Half of the time it’s freezing when you’re heading to the bar for a night out– if you want to wear a nice comfy sweater and some leggings to the bar tonight, you do you. You practically know everyone there anyway and if they can’t accept you at your worst then they certainly don’t deserve you at your best. Thinking about wearing heels tonight just to dress things up a little bit? Ummm can I get a hell no?!

7. You’ve mastered waiting until the last minute. You have a five page paper due at noon and a biology test after that–no sweat! You start working on you five page paper the night before it’s due (with a few episodes of Netflix in between finishing each page) and you study for that bio test in Einstein’s an hour before you have to take it. Fingers crossed you get a passing grade…even if it is a C.

8. You constantly use the excuse “but it’s senior year” when justifying partying on a Monday. So you have no idea what you are doing with your life yet and you have a ton of tests and projects due each week “but it’s senior year” and that is the only justification you need to give when you explain to your friends why you are going out for the fifth night in a row.

9. Or you do the complete opposite. Throwing you hair up in a messy bun, donning your baggiest sweatpants and pouring yourself a large glass of wine is a night made in heaven. So what if there’s a Naut tonight, Scandal is on too!

10. When you show up for a Point Day you don’t recognize anyone. Sure you did it too so you completely understand the flood of underclassmen on the Point deck, but it’s a little scary when you accidentally lose track of your friends and everywhere you look is another person you don’t recognize….hello? Is there anyone out there?

11. You find yourself in a core class with all seniors. Remember that bio class you had a test in? It’s all filled with seniors. The core is a tough part of college regardless of what year you are and it seems like everyone else in your class was putting of taking their second science too. Great minds think alike, amirite?

12. You seriously hate when people ask you if you have a job lined up. Your parents, your professors and even your classmates all seem to want to know what you will be doing after graduation. Why don’t they understand that you’ve been trying to get a job? You’ve sent upwards of 50 applications at this point so stop being so nosy and get off my back, okay?!

13. You start to get sappy every time the bar plays “Closing Time”. Sure it’s a sign that the bar is closing which is sad in and of itself but as graduation approaches this song begins to take on a whole new meaning for you. Excuse us while we blubber into a snotty tissue. *tear*

14. You’ve given up on cooking for yourself so Chipotle it is! Seriously though, groceries are so expensive and every time you go to Stop & Shop you come back with queso, slice and bake cookies and frozen meals. You also haven’t mastered figuring out when things go bad so it’s better to just not buy anything…except Chipotle because that’s always a good idea.

15. You notice that everyone around you is in a relationship. Maybe everyone is freaking out that they’re graduating and just looking for someone’s shoulder to cry on or maybe they all really like each other. Who knows! All you know is every time you turn around at the bar you see another couple making out. Maybe it’s time to start considering your options…haha nah!

16. You document every single moment of the year. You don’t care if it’s a trip to Chipotle or your entire Spring Break vacation; every moment needs a picture and you can bet your vente latte all of them will be on Facebook and Instagram.

17. You know that once the weather starts to get warm all intentions of going to class completely go out the window. You promised yourself you wouldn’t skip and when it was cold out there was hardly a reason to stay home from class. Now that the weather is (hopefully) getting warmer you know it means day drinks during the week and people breaking out their beach chairs to tan.
