The 14 Types of People You See in the Library

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

At one point or another, the library has had an impact on our lives. What is even more entertaining than that beautiful building itself is the people inside. Here are the types of people you see while spending some time at the lib.

1.     The “I just came here for the Starbucks.”

It’s about as good as fake-Starbucks can get, but since Einstein’s is not really open on Sundays, you need that go-to coffee alternative.

2.     The First Timer

Yes it is November, and yes, it is now your first time. Welcome.

3.     The Procrastinator

Oops. I haven’t started that paper… or that reading… or that online discussion board post due this week. Better cram it all in.

4.     The Distracter

Yeah, we know you know everyone here. That doesn’t mean you need to talk to everyone.

5.     The “Oops why does my music keep playing awkwardly out loud?”

Whether it is on your computer or from your headphones, we hear it. And it is distracting and uncomfortable for us all.

6.     The Group Study Buddy

This is the person that you drag to those large group study rooms because they are smart and you need their help. Though they do not need to go to the library, they tough it out for the betterment of your grades. Thank you, kind soul.

7.     The “I keep fumbling all of my books and papers… Sorry”

We all know that person that doesn’t understand the concept of “no sudden movements.” Whether it be putting away their books or opening that massive science textbook, they manage to make a scene.

8.     The Regular

It’s funny how when you go on certain days or certain times, you see the same people. The library has become your home, and it seems that these people are just your library siblings.

9.     The “Help me… I’m lost.”

Though you are not a new library attendee, you just can’t seem to find the copy machines or that research book. It’s okay, that is what the kind people at the info desk are for.

10.  The Person Who Doesn’t Understand the Concept of the Quiet Floor

Please shhhh. We know you wanted to talk about your night out with someone at my table, but can’t you just text them? Or at least save it for later.

11. The Random Walker

It seems like sometimes people just lose track of their seats, and you see them roaming around the quiet floor for the entire duration of your library trip.

12. The Cubicle Sitter

These people have some of the most amazing motivation. These are the type of people that get to the library, and get stuff done in the most efficient timing possible. In the cubicles, the only distraction is your phone…not the people watching.

13. The Opener to Closer

These are the people that save all of their work for one day, and just camp out at the library all day. They have been there since the library opens, and do not leave until after that 11:30 pm announcement has been made about returning all of the items you borrowed before the 12am closing.

14. The Standard

This is a majority of the library population. People in this category go there determined, and leave for essentials like coffee and food. They get up to ask a few questions to their friends and classmates, but it is generally school-related. Though they do procrastinate slightly, they manage to get it all done… and not at 3am the night before it’s due.
