13 Movies and Shows to Make You Feel ~Spooktacular~

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

It’s getting chillier. We’re donning our jack-o-lantern socks and searching for the nearest apple cider donut. The advertisements for pumpkin candles have become rather obnoxious.

Yes, it’s almost time for Halloween. During the month of October, find comfort in the spine-tingling, scary, and strange. If you ever feel like running home, cutting holes in your bed sheet, and ghosting all your friends, unwind with some particularly creepy content. With midterms coming around, brush the cobwebs out of your hair and dream of becoming as iconic as the beloved Sanderson Sisters. “The power of Christ compels you” to watch these 13 movies or TV specials as we near All Hallows’ Eve. It’s like the 12 days of Christmas, but spookier.

1.Hocus Pocus (1993)

Pull this Halloween staple up one glorious morning.

There is undying love for this nostalgic masterpiece, and it is meant for annual viewing.

3.The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

Henry Selick and Tim Burton’s film doubles as a winter and fall holiday movie and features a fabulous soundtrack.

4.Beetlejuice (1988)

Don’t miss out on one of Tim Burton’s greatest.

5.Parasite (2019)

It’s the 2020 Academy Award for Best Picture winner, and this story is terrifying and brilliantly told.

6.Stranger Things: Season 2 | ‘Chapter 2: Trick or Treat, Freak’

Stranger Things as a whole fits the Halloween vibe, but this episode in particular really sets the scene. Their Ghostbusters costumes were even featured in the season’s Super Bowl ad.

7.Halloweentown (1998)

Who doesn’t want to go to Halloweentown?

8.The Office, Halloween Episodes

It was so hard to pick one, and we simply couldn’t. Celebrate spooky season and the magic of the workplace with a Dunder Mifflin Halloween.

9.The Addams Family (1991

This movie is a lifestyle we aspire to emulate.

10.Get Out (2017)

Much like Parasite, this isn’t truthfully a “Halloween” movie. But, the performances and Jordan Peele’s storytelling will definitely leave you unsettled.

11.The Exorcist (1973)

The Exorcist is a blueprint for the horror genre and is thus a ~must-see~.

12.Coraline (2009)

This movie often interestingly terrifies grown adults and enchants small children. The beautiful animation accents its elegant creepiness. We’ll never look at buttons the same way again.

13.Ghostbusters (1984)

Who you gonna call… we know you can finish the rest! Although it contains a bit more sexual references than my childhood memory, it’s still a classic.

Whether you watch this movie with your roommates or on your own, it should be frightfully fun.
