The 13 Emotional Stages of Giving Something Up For Lent

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

1, During the entire week leading up to Lent, you wonder what you should give up this year.

2. But after a lot of thinking, you realize it’s a lot harder than you thought.

3. Netflix?

4. Pizza?

5. Ice cream?

6. After you undergo lots of inner turmoil, you finally decide what you’re going to be giving up for the next 40 days.

7. It starts off easy, until a few days passes and you face symptoms of withdrawal.

8. With no less than 38 days left of Lent, you cave and indulge in your ice cream, Parks and Rec binge, etc. Of course, you can’t help but go a little overboard.

9. Okay, that was just practice. So you try again.

10. But sure enough, history repeats itself and you cave again.

12. The next couple weeks are pure torture, until Easter Sunday comes around and you simply rejoice.

13. Oh well, there’s always next year.
