11 Fitting Room Struggles Every Girl Can Relate To

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

Fitting rooms. What would we do without them? They are there for us whenever we need to try on something at our favorite store, and they have the ability to stop us from buying trends that are just not our style. Seriously, red leather pants?! What were we thinking? Although fitting rooms at times can be our saviors, there is a multitude of struggles that come along with using them. Here are a few that every girl can relate to.

1. Having to change out of skinny jeans to try on other clothes. They may have seemed like a good idea when we left the house, but after wrestling out of their tight death grip and then going through the process again to put them back on, we immediately regret the decision… especially when we get to store number 3. Next time, we’ll be sure to wear leggings or better yet, a dress.

2. The size of the fitting rooms. Most of the time, fitting rooms are equivalent to the size of small closet. How are we supposed to change without bruising our elbows and knees in the process? We’re starting a petition for bigger fitting rooms everywhere.

3. The lighting in the fitting rooms. The size is one thing, but dim lighting is even worse. The colors of the clothing do not appear in their true form, so we can’t tell what we’re actually buying. The struggle is real.

4. When it’s hot as hell in the store. Not only do we sweat in the clothes we are currently wearing, but also in our future purchases. Sigh. We’re lucky if we don’t end up with heat stroke after our dressing saga.

5. When it’s colder than Antarctica. We already have to use a lot of mental will to force ourselves to use the dressing room at all. No one feels like stripping to try on jeans in when it feels like it’s below zero, no matter how cute they are. A dressing room that feels something like a spring day would be perfect to us.

6. When the sales associate pressures you buy something that you’re just not feeling.  Does she really like what I’m wearing, or is she just trying to make commission off the purchase? The world may never know.

7. When they limit you to 5 items per fitting room. Not fair! We have three of the same shirt because we’re not sure what size or color will fit better. Limiting us to just 5 items per room is just plain mean.

8. Wearing boots. The struggle of all struggles comes from taking off our tall riding boots every single time we enter a new dressing room. You always manage to tell yourself that you will wear flip-flops next time, but want to punish yourself for forgetting…again.

9. When they won’t let our BFF in the fitting room with us. How else are we supposed to get an honest opinion on this dress for date night?!

10. When the fitting room attendant leaves and we need another size. This is yet another reason why we need our BFF in the fitting room with us. And where did the attendant go anyways? She asked us if we needed anything every 30 seconds for the last three minutes and now when I need her she’s gone? Work on your timing, girl!

11. Having to decide between the black skirt and the black dress. These are very important decisions that may just require hours of consideration. We’re sorry if you’re swamped and need an empty fitting room ASAP but these decisions simply can’t be rushed.
