10 Ways to Stay Focused Before Winter Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

The only thing on our minds is finally getting to go home and celebrate the holidays after a stressful semester of classes. Sadly, finals are the only barrier between us and winter break, so unfortunately we can’t slack off right before we leave. It is the most difficult time to focus, but it can be done. Here are ten ways to stay focused before winter break:

  1. Get Enough Sleep Don’t try to pull all-nighters. Get enough sleep so that you do not get run down or even worse, get sick. Also, you don’t want to pull that all-nighter right before a morning exam and risk missing it by oversleeping.
  2. Make a Schedule/Get in a Routine

Making yourself a schedule can be very beneficial to keeping yourself organized and on track with all the work you have to do right before break!

  3. Refrain from Using Your Cell Phone While Studying Using your cell phone is an immediate distraction. Also, especially while studying for a final, refrain from checking it frequently. Unfortunately, checking your Snapchat to see that your best friend is already home, done with finals, and snuggled up on the couch watching Christmas movies with her dog is not going to motivate you to study.

    4. Exercise

Going to the gym and exercising is a perfect way to relieve stress and it also helps you stay more focused throughout the day!

5. Drink Coffee or Tea

You’re going to go through more cups of coffee right before break than the entire semester. You’re going to need that caffeine fix during those late nights studying at the library.

6. Eat Breakfast

Some of you might never even eat breakfast, but it really is the most important meal of the day!

7. Set Goals and Rewards for Yourself

Set goals for the day for what you want to accomplish. If you complete those goals reward yourself with a little something as a form of your own personal motivation!

8. Figure Out the Best Study Environment

Everyone has that one place where they study best. Whether it is the library, the coffee shop on campus, academic buildings, your dorm room, or even a random lounge, find the least distracting and most effective place for you to get work done.

9. Give Yourself Breaks

This is of course a very stressful time, but try to give yourself a break every once in awhile. It’s okay to watch an episode of Neflix after writing a six-page paper and studying for five hours!

10. Stay Positive!!

No one is arguing with you when you say that trying to stay focused right before winter break is hard. You can do it though! Stay positive and know that winter break is so close!
