Urban Dictionary defines basic as “an adjective used to describe any person, place, or activity involving obscenely obvious behavior, dress or action.” Lately, being “basic” has gotten a lot of media attention and has developed a bad rap. In a world where being basic is considered negative, I am hereby stating the obvious: I am basic and proud of it! Here are 10 signs that might show that you’re basic and don’t care:
1. Jack Rogers and nautical stripes are a summer staple.
2. Sweater weather is your jam.
The basic community loves our summers filled with Lilly Pulitzer dresses, but trust me when I say there is nothing better than when the temperature dips to high 50s. We can finally whip out our brown boots, cute sweaters, J-Crew vests, leggings and flannel shirts.
3. Taylor Swift is your hero.
I am convinced Taylor Swift has magical powers. She has read the minds of every girl around the word and has written a song for every occasion imaginable. You cried during her 1989 World Tour and have no shame driving around, windows down, blasting her greatest hits.
4. You consider Mean Girls to be the Bible.
“I saw Cady Heron wearing army pants and flip flops, so I bought army pants and flip flops.” Not only is it the most quotable movie, Mean Girls also is the greatest movie ever made. Isn’t it about time everyone just admitted it?
5. “Do it for the Insta” is your motto.
If you don’t Instagram your food, did you even eat it? You put deep thought into your captions, carefully choose the perfect filter and posted during highest “like” hours. Cultivating a perfect Instagram profile is hard work!
6. Karlie Kloss, Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner are one word: perfect!
“Ugh, she’s perfect!” You’ve used that phrase to describe one of these lovely ladies too many times to count. Between Karlie’s legs that go on for miles, Gigi’s gorgeous locks, and Kendall’s amazing style, is there really any other word to describe them?!
7. You truly believe Beyoncé is the Queen.
Bey can sing, dance and act. She’s drop-dead gorgeous and she surrounds herself with nothing but the best. Can anyone really blame you for wanting to follow in her footsteps?
8. You love Sex and the City.
Are you more of a Charlotte or a Carrie? This is no laughing matter; it’s a major concern. You hope to one day be able to afford a beautiful Manhattan apartment and buy yourself infinite amounts of Manolo Blahnik shoes.
9. You’re the reason Lululemon is still in business.
You own mostly yoga pants but when was the last time you went to a yoga class? Let’s be real, why would you ever wear jeans if you could wear yoga pants instead?

Real Housewives and Keeping up with the Kardashians make for great television. There may be those that don’t understand your love for reality TV, but you definitely don’t let them get you down. You’re also very thankful Bravo and E! exist.
