Last spring, a new social media craze swept across our little F&M campus (along with most of the other college campuses across the country). This app is known as Yik Yak, what I like to refer to as anonymous Twitter. While the app has been banned at high schools due to bullying problems, it is alive and well at colleges throughout the nation. Surprisingly enough, Yik Yak is rarely used for personal attacks on our campus, though some really controversial things are occasionally said. But, there are also a lot of incredibly amusing Yaks. Some of the highlights from this week I decided to reproduce here, for the enjoyment of the HerCampus community:

“If her first iTunes purchase was $1.29 then she’s too young for you.”

Nice twist to an old joke.

“We don’t need to worry about Ebola spreading to F&M… It’s much easier to get into Gettysburg.”

Ah, and here we have the typical rivalry with Gettysburg, along with some current events. This crops up nearly every week.

“Currently having a staring contest with a baby at Park City. I’m totally going to win.”

Here’s one of those random Yaks from Park City…

“So exhausted that I literally just grabbed my calculator instead of my phone while heading out the door.”

But you aren’t too tired to Yak about it.

“I feel like F&M is like a little sibling. You can make fun of it as much as you want, but as soon as someone else does it, you get super defensive.”

Yep. This is accurate.

Many other Yaks deal with serious campus issues, such a the spotty WiFi, bizarre happenings in Ware, the administration, drinking and partying (is anyone really surprised by this?), the food at Dhall, how much work people have, and relationship problems, but you can go check those out for youself.

I attend Franklin & Marshall College and am the campus correspondent of the Her Campus chapter here. I also play flute with the Pep Band and Symphonic Wind Ensemble. I am an editor for the Patsy Post, am involved with F&M Unleashed, a member of Mu Upsilon Sigma, and a Brother of Phi Sigma Pi, a co-ed honors fraternity.
Along with being the Her Campus Franklin and Marshall Campus Correspondent, I am also the editor-in-chief of Epilogue, F&M's literary Magazine, Staff Writer for The College Reporter, F&M's student newspaper, and a very active member of Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity. When not hard at work, you can find me writing, reading, geeking out over Disney movies with my friends, or doing art projects.
