Though the Olympics are over, elections are right around the corner! Let the USA inspire some fun flag nails:

Step 1: Paint your thumb a navy blue. I’d suggest using Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Blue It.

Step 2: Paint all other fingers with a white nail polish color. Don’t be afraid to lay it on a little thicker since you do not want the nail polish to dry before the next step.

Step 3: Draw two to three lines with a thin nail brush. I’m a big fan of the nail art pens that QVC sells, but you can also get them on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/MIGI-NAILS-BEAUTIFULLY-BOLD-COLORS/dp/B005OAYNAY/r…)

Step 4: Take either a toothpick or a nail pen and swipe it through the red and white lines. This creates a mixed/zigzag effect that looks more exciting than the typical stripes.

Step 5: Now on your thumb draw as many stars as you can, again I’d suggest using the nail art pens, but if you do use a brush I’d suggest using an astrix star with lines, since it will be easier to paint on.

Step 6: Finish with a topcoat and with one wave of the hand you’ll be feeling more patriotic than ever!

I am currently a senior at Franklin and Marshall College in the picturesque city of Lancaster, PA. I am a Spanish and History major and I'm excited to be a writer for HerCampus F&M. I love finding new and interesting ways to design nails and always share it with others. I also love all things of adventurous and exotic natures, stories, art, and cute boys (let's not forget what we really are checking on HerCampus).
