Meet our Profile of the Week, Kevin Cerna. He is a memebr of the F&M Class of 2018 and hopes to change the world with his Geoscience major! Read more about him below:
HC: Hometown?
KC: I was born and raised in El Salvador but I moved to live in Orange County, CA, in 2009.
HC: Major/minor?
KC: The plan is to major in Geoscience. It is a simple yet complicated subject area that I found by accident trying to complete one of the graduation requirements #LiberalArtsEducation #WhyItWorks. I only took one class and I knew we were meant for each other…and I also didn’t know what other path to follow… I love it, though.
HC: Favorite ice cream flavor?
KC: My favorite ice cream flavor is… I think it would be easier to say the flavors I don’t like since I would eat almost any ice cream flavor. The only flavor that I don’t like is Mint Chocolate Chip–It’s just not a good combination.
HC: Best memory at F&M?
KC: My best memory at F&M actually just happened this past week. I was out on the field during a Geo fieldtrip and it was one of those days that reassure you that you are on the right track. That day I found my first fossil ever–a trilobite fossil. I’m thinking of holding it close to me throughout my life no matter where I go.
HC: Favorite song?
KC: It would be hard to pick just one specific song since my taste in music ranges from Spanish Rock to Indie and Alternative Rock, so I will pick this song based on the many of times that I have listened to it. “Hand Me Down” by Matchbox Twenty is probably the one that I listen to the most because every time that I can’t fall asleep I listen to it and I always fall asleep before it ends. It has such a soothing rhythm.
HC: What is one thing that’s on your bucket list?
KC: One of my main goals in life is to help others in the same way I have been helped to be where I am today. I want to create a future for those who don’t think have one and inspire them to go beyond their limits.
HC: How many languages can you speak?
KC: I’m a native Spanish speaker and I learned how to speak English a few years ago, err, sort of. I always like to say that I’m still learning how to speak both Spanish and English.
HC: Pet peeves?
KC: I don’t think I hav–actually, people who chew loudly and with their mouth open.
HC: Do you play any sports?
KC: I love to play soccer. It is a link to a free state of mind where the only thing that matters is having fun and creating remarkable memories with a great group of people.
HC: Ben or John?
KC: Why not both? ;)
