Your tan has faded and your last bikini has been stored away until next season, but
there’s something remarkably special in the fall air nonetheless. The chilly weather
accompanied by the changing color of the leaves and all things pumpkin-flavor mark a
time of new beginnings and a fresh start to a new year. Unfortunately, with the constant
stress that comes with deadlines, papers, and exams, it can feel as if you have no time
to stop, slow down, and enjoy the pumpkin spice lattes. Despite these stresses, taking a
break from your studying and getting out of Shad to enjoy all of the autumn festivities
Lancaster has to offer will work wonders on your soul and perspective. Here are a few
suggestions to get the most of your fall:
1. Nothing says fall like a giant corn maze. Cherry Crest Adventure Farm in
Lancaster County is famous for its annually themed corn maze and cider donuts.
Check out their website at http://www.cherrycrestfarm.com/
2. Apple picking at Cherry Hill Orchards, located only 10 minutes from campus,
is fall must. Not only is it a fun way to enjoy some fresh air, but you leave
with fresh, great tasting apples! Check out the orchard’s website at http://
3. The Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire is a fun way to escape the present and
travel back to the medieval days of knights, jousting, and mud wrestling. The
Renaissance Faire is open Saturdays and Sundays during the fall months, and
is about a 30-minute drive from F&M’s campus. Visit their website for more
information at http://www.parenfaire.com/
4. The Lancaster Central Market is a great place to spend a fall morning. Local
flowers make great decorations to liven up any dorm room, and the market’s vast
selection of seasonal produce makes great ingredients for a homemade apple pie!
5. Hiking is a not only great way to get out and relieve some stress while working
out those muscles, but allows you to enjoy the beauty of autumn in Lancaster as
well. There are numerous state parks and hiking trails in the area to check out.
Bring a picnic basket and some homework to make a day out of it!
