Cheers to Spring Break. HOORAY for Home-Cooked Meals!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at F and M chapter.

Hello F&M and most of all HELLO Spring Break! Whether you felt a little wary about your last mid-term or you went a little too hard on your last night on campus, this break is very much needed. And I don’t know about you guys but 90% of the time I’m alive I’m hungry and now that break has started I’m bored and hungry. One of the best things about going home for break is HOME COOKED MEALS. Whether it’s your mom’s grilled cheese or the bodega right outside of your apartment building; home is home and good food is just the cherry on top.

So far it’s only been Day 1 of break and I’m already enjoying the greener grass on this side. Coming from a Dominican and Ecuadorian family I’ve grown up with loads of flavor and spice. So after my great welcoming meal last night I’ve decided I’d show the world all the great foods of the Dominican culture so next time you’re in New York or in any Dominican Restaurant you know exactly what to order! Here’s our menu:

Arroz con Habichuelas y Bistec Encebollado (Rice and Beans with Steak)

Rice and beans are a great combo with the savory steak!

Camarones al Ajillo con Arroz Amarillo (Garlic Shrimp with Yellow Rice)

The yellow rice and shrimp not only look good together but taste amazing together.

Paella Valenciana (Paella)

This dish is like a scavenger hunt to find shrimp, clams, muscles, pork, beef, and muscles in a plate.

Pechuga a la Plancha con Tostones (Grilled Chicken Brest with Plantains)

Combine the Smokey Chicken and the salty taste of the plantains and your dish is made!

Chicharron con Yuca Frita (Chicharron with Fried Yuca)

Don’t ever forget your lime with the Chicharron or the ketchup to go with your yuca!

Hope you guys think these dishes are as appealing as I thought they were! Enjoy your home-cooked meals y’all and enjoy your break!
