The turkey ran away before Thanksgiving Day. We all remember that song from our childhood. This year, not only are Jews talking turkey, but they’re talking some serious gelt (or chocolate coins given to children on Hanukkah). That’s right, this year, Thanksgiving and Hanukkah come at the same time aka Thanksgivukkah! So for all you Jewish girls at there, here are five of the best reasons why Thanksgivukkah rocks!
1. More spending money before finals. Come on, you know that you’re going to use some of that non-chocolate gelt to buy some cute things on Black Friday. Thanks family!
2. You’ll actually be with family for some of Hanukkah. How awesome is that? If you’re like me, you tend to miss your family the most during the holidays you would celebrate together (and birthdays too!). This year, you’ll actually be home in time to celebrate with a lot of family…and not miss the beginning of the holiday, aka the best days.
3. So many cool new recipes to try! Pumpkin pie sufganyiot? Cranberry applesauce? Count me in!
4. So much food! You get to celebrate two holidays of eating at the same time! How great is that?
5. Because you get to witness a one-of-a-kind event. You think this will ever happen again in our lifetimes? Try again! Well, if you’re lucky, it may kinda happen again in 2070…but that’s a long way away!
How are you celebrating Thanksgivukkah?
