The 10 Struggles of the F&M Student in the Snow

So even though we’re on Spring Break now, we still want to moan and groan about the cold and the stupid snow…especially with all the problems F&M decides to leave us with…it makes us feel a little bit like this:

Anyway, here are the 10 biggest struggles of going to F&M classes in the snow.

1. The plowing is awful. Seriously F&M, get your act together. I do not enjoy having multiple near death experiences while walking to classes. Your job is to keep me safe, not allow me to die.

2. Apparently we can’t handle ice either. You thought just struggling through mountains of snow was made? Try falling on your butt multiple times because of ice…I think my butt is consistantly a very lovely shade of black and blue now.

3. The snow doesn’t melt because it’s always too cold. Can we invest in heaters or something, like the ones runners wear in their socks? Seriously, it’s March, snow should go bye-bye by this point.

4. Apparently, it’s a great joke when we go to class in a variety of fun weather conditions. I mean, c’mon already. How is it that I can go to class dealing with rain, freezing rain, sleet, ice and fun frizzy hair all at once? Didn’t think that was possible.

5. When it’s so cold, we have zero motivation to go to class…or leave our beds. If it’s snowing out, don’t expect us to want to leave our beds for your 8:30 a.m.

6. It’s up to the professors whether or not to cancel classes. This is such a funny joke, F&M! Campus may be closed, but guess what? You professor may still hold class! If the campus is closed, shouldn’t classes be off too?

7. People expect us to pay attention when it’s snowing outside. Seriously, if there’s snow, we’re probably more interested in that than learning out the history of the Purtains at 9 a.m. on a Monday.

8. The plows are just SO loud! I mean, I get that you want to do your job and all, but could you do it a little less loudly? I may or may not be studying for a major exam here or something.

9. The wind wants us to fall down…like all the time. It’s such a joke. How have we all not broken bones with the lovely snow-ice-wind combo?

10. We’re hungry and everything on campus closes early…and there’s nothing good to eat/nothing is open/no one wants to drive off campus. Seriously, all I want is my nice hot cocoa with whipped cream as a break from the snow. Is it so much to ask for that I can get it at night, when I’m really cold?

Along with being the Her Campus Franklin and Marshall Campus Correspondent, I am also the editor-in-chief of Epilogue, F&M's literary Magazine, Staff Writer for The College Reporter, F&M's student newspaper, and a very active member of Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity. When not hard at work, you can find me writing, reading, geeking out over Disney movies with my friends, or doing art projects.
