Accessories can take your outfit from 0 to 100 real fast. You may not even realise how much your clothing can elevate until you are wearing it – or worse, the day you forgot to wear your rings and your hands now feel incomplete. Accessories are like that one seasoning you must add to your meal for it to taste nice. This guide will help you better understand the various types of accessories and how they can complete your look.
Jewellery
The word of jewelry is vast and ever expanding but one thing is certain – the basics never change.
- Gold & silver- these are the two dominant items that people use to accessorise with, timeless pieces that never go out of style. A key factor people tend to ignore is ‘what complements my skin tone?’ To put it simply, gold for warmer skin tone and silver for cooler skin tones.
- Earrings – whether they are dainty and elegant or bold and dramatic, earrings can complement your face shape and go beautifully with your outfit.
- Rings – similar to earrings, you can opt for the minimalist rings or have a chunky moment, these both depend on your own personal aesthetic and the outfit it is being paired with.
- Necklaces & Bracelets – From simple chain necklaces to bangles, adding a bit of jewellery can make a simple look a magnificent one.
Everyone has there own preferences when it comes to jewellery, so you do you girl!
Bags
An outfit is not complete without a bag, I mean were would your lipgloss go?! From practical bags to statement pieces, the right bag is essential.
- Staple bags – These are your traditional tote, handbag or crossbody bags. The material tends to be leather or suede, with shades of black, navy, or neutral tones (beige, cream, khaki). These are the bags that will last you for years, go through the depths of the trenches and still survive. You can virtually fit anything and everything in these bags, so they are perfect for uni or work.
- Showpiece bag – These bags are usually unapologetically in your face, with bold colours and design. She is definitely unique and irreplaceable. You may lean towards this bag for a special event or holiday when your wardrobe is a little more extravagant than your day-to-day.
Sunglasses
Sunnies are needed on hand at all times. Of course, they have the practical benefit of protection from harmful UV rays, but they also scream mysterious baddie. The amazing thing about sunglasses is they come in so many different shapes and sizes, the trick is finding one that complements your face shape.
Shoes
Shoes practically hold your outfit together; the wrong move here can be detrimental (not being dramatic). A pair of clean, white trainers will go with any outfit; they are comfortable and can be dressed up or down. Whereas heels and boots are more sophisticated and can make an outfit look a lot more boujee (which we love). If you’re not a fan of either of these, then loafers may be for you. They are classy, and if you find the right ones, they are comfortable too.
Belts
People tend to run away from belts but when styled correctly they can look incredible.
- Chunky belts – These are for securing oversized clothing or jeans
- Thin belts – These are perfect with skirts or bodycon dresses, where you don’t want the belt to be doing to much.
A pro tip – match your accessories to the tones of your outfit ( colour coordination, duh), this will bring out your outfit more!
The beautiful thing about accessories is it can be another way to highlight your personality, from jewellery to bags to shoes to belts. Show your style to the world, don’t hold back.
