Things to do in Exeter on a Budget

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Exeter chapter.

Just because money might be a little bit tight doesn’t mean you have to remain chained to your desk at home! It’s so important to build in time to relax when work becomes stressful, so here are some great ways to spend your well-deserved time off in Exeter for little or even no money.

Take a Walk

Wrap up warm and get outside! The Quay is a great place to take a walk or the bus to Topsham is very cheap if you feel like getting out of town. Even just a quick trip into the centre and a wander around the Cathedral grounds is a brilliant way to get some fresh air and a change of scenery.

Visit The Ramm

The Royal Albert Memorial Museum on Queens Street is FREE and well worth a visit; perfect if you have parents or family visiting. Look out for the amazing collection of butterflies, stuffed giraffe and shrunken head (!!) alongside the famous Armada portrait of Elizabeth I currently on loan from the National Portrait Gallery.

Time for Tea

Look out for cafes which offer student discount, making this little luxury even better! The Butternut Café in the Guildhall Shopping Centre is a particular favourite of mine; they offer 10% student discount.

Cycle to the beach

This may be one to keep in mind for the summer. It’s not far along from the Quay to the Double Locks Pub, or if you keep going to Exmouth you will be able to combine getting some good exercise with a trip to the beach! Dawlish is also a really pretty cycle ride or Budleigh Salterton is a great beach if you are looking for a more challenging route.
