Let’s talk (and listen) about sex baby… sex and relationship podcasts are on the rise. Their witty take on embracing sexuality and informative discussions on understanding the realities of sex and love, creates a level of security and reassurance. This sense of security removes the awkwardness that arises when talking about sex and relationships. Here are my top 4 sex and relationship podcasts that advocate a sex-positive mindset:

  • CALL HER DADDY

Father Cooper is my lord and saviour and I have been part of her wonderful Daddy gang since I was in year 12. No, unfortunately, Daddy gang is not a cult, but an amazing community of strong sex-positive women built by the perplexing Alexandra Cooper. One of the major appeals of the show is how Alex uses her wit to allow guests to honestly open up about their own experiences. Alex describes sex as something not to be ashamed about depicting it to be both beautiful and natural, whilst additionally bringing light to concerns in the bedroom enabling her listeners to not feel alone in their own experiences. Moreover, Alex’s variety of celebrity guests allows you to humanize the famous, by demonstrating that they go through the same experiences as us. Overall, Call Her Daddy is more than just the podcast that invented the Gluck Gluck 9000, it’s an empowering sex-positive show that illustrates women feeling comfortable in their sexuality.

  • DYKING OUT

Dyking Out is my number one podcast for learning about different sexualities, and, coming to terms with yourself. This LGBTQ+ friendly podcast follows its motto of “two dykes, dyking out” as exemplified by its laid-back discussions on what it’s like to be Queer in our society, discussing topics ranging from coming out stories to episodes called Mommy issues and Hand Sex. If you’re Queer, questioning, or just interested this podcast offers relationship advice from the perspective of two lesbians that have been through it all. Moreover, fellow Queer guests input their personal experience and expert advice. Therefore, this podcast provides information on a range of topics in a manner that keeps you drawn in, making it the perfect ‘on the go’ podcast.

  • PRETTY BASIC

As a female going into her 20s, having a podcast like Pretty Basic that talks about the world from the perspective of two twenty-something-year-old women, provides me with a level of comfort. There is a shift in expectations when it comes to sex and relationships as you enter your 20s and hosts Alisha Marie and Remi Cruz walk their viewers through this with their carefree, hilarious takes on growing and evolving. Discussing things from ‘how to be single in your 20s’ to topics regarding the beauty standard and toxic relationships, these two debunk the insecurities you might feel as you grow into a new version of yourself. Both Alisha and Remi provide advice and guidance, by using their own experiences. Overall, Pretty Basic gives a similar feel to drunken deep conversations with a stranger in a bathroom – the best type of conversation.

  • ANYTHING GOES

Who doesn’t love Emma Chamberlain? Everything this girl produces is pure gold. Recorded from the comfort of her bed, she discusses her experiences with relationships. Whether these relationships are romantic or platonic, Emma emphasizes the importance of prioritizing your wellbeing and mental health over others. Even though this podcast isn’t in the same realm of discussing sex in the ways of Father Cooper or as explicit as some episodes of Dyking Out, Emma provides a relaxing atmosphere, so you feel detached from the stress of uni life for a few minutes. I find myself resonating more with Emma, her advice stems from experiences that she has gone through or is currently experiencing. As Emma has recently turned 20, who is living away from home, we as uni students share a lot of common ground with her. Anything Goes is my ride or die morning podcast and if you are wanting to create a more calming atmosphere in your room in the mornings, I recommend any episode from this show.

Maintaining a relationship in this day and age is challenging, especially if you aren’t taught to embrace your sexuality and to look after your mental health first, but I hope these recommendations lighten the load.

A girl who is trying to figure her sh*t out but wants to take you on the ride.
