Based on my own experiences in Exeter, I have complied a list of the best date spots in Exeter for all budgets. I have chosen three places for each budget from good value for money (£) to expensive and definitely worth it (£££). I hope you will have a fab Valentine’s date or a regular one at one of these great locations.

£

Eat On the Green

A cute Bistrot/café. I recommend sitting outside with a coffee or smoothie as it has a beautiful view of the cathedral. It is a great first date for those wanting something informal and affordable. They also serve food that is reasonable for those who want something to eat.

Franco Manca

They sell incredible sourdough pizzas, and handly, also run deals on Unidays being a chain. Sunday to Thursday, you can get pizza and a soft drink for £9.95 and pizza and wine for £11.95. Yummy pizza and drinks – there’s nothing much better than that!

A walk along the Quay to a variety of cafes

Completely free and super fun! You have privacy and can talk about anything, plus the scenery is beautiful. If you fancy it, you can always stop at Mango’s for a coffee or Topsham Brewery for a craft beer.

££

The Old Firehouse

Probably the number one date location in Exeter for a reason. The pizzas are made to be shared, so definitely perfect date food. They have a million varieties of cider and cheap wine which all taste amazing. The vibes are super cosy and romantic and will remain the classic date location for all Exeter students.

Artigiano

Café by day and bar by night. Their coffee is delicious, however, I recommend going for evening drinks. They do two for £16 on classic cocktails and two for £16.50 on craft cocktails, so definitely pricier than your classic Revs deal of 2 for 10. However, they are stronger and give off a more mature vibe with warm lighting and exposed brick walls. They also do pizzas/flatbreads and charcuterie boards to nibble on too.

The Bootlegger

A 1930s-themed bar with loads of cocktails to offer. They offer cocktails for two for £14 during their happy hour, and much like Artigiano, off charcuterie boards. Sometimes they have live bands performing as well, so definitely a good date location for some yummy drinks and a show.

£££

The Ivy

A fancy classic. Exeter students dream of going on a date here. They are currently offering a £75 per person set menu for those who are looking to really indulge, perhaps those who have been in a relationship for a while or are celebrating an anniversary. You can always choose from their usual menu, and their breakfast is definitely more affordable. You can always sit at the bar for a drink or two.

Colson’s

A brand new restaurant in Exeter inside the new Hotel Indigo right in the heart of the city. They offer a normal menu, a tasting menu (£65 per person), and a lounge menu which is the cheapest. If you are looking for something new that is still a bit fancy, I would definitely recommend giving it a go for the perfect date.

Winslade Manor

This is definitely the priciest location on the list, offering a 6-course tasting menu with a cocktail for £90 per person this Valentine’s Day. It sits a bit out of Exeter, so you would need to drive or get a taxi. However, if you are a major foodie looking for a uber-luxurious and fancy experience, this one is for you.

I hope you find something on this list that will save you this Valentine’s Day or another date night. I recommend them all, but any other ideas you also have, I am sure, will make for the perfect date in Exeter.
