The Best 6 Christmas Date Ideas for Couples

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Exeter chapter.

‘Tis the season for cheesy Christmas songs on repeat, festive lights at night and of course cold, wintery nights. This year is the perfect year to go all out for some dates because of the COVID restrictions we had last year. In this article I have compiled a list of 6 different, fun Christmas dates to do during the festive season with your SO. Let’s take a look at this list below:

  • Ice Skating

Whilst this isn’t exactly an original idea, given that this wasn’t possible last year, ice skating has to be on the list! This is a classic date idea purely because at this time of year you can do it in pretty much any town in the country and you get to hold hands while trying to keep your balance. Afterwards you could even get something to eat and drink and laugh at each other’s falls.

  • Christmas Films

Even though this isn’t a ‘going-out’ date, we still couldn’t do this last Christmas because we were restricted. So you definitely need to make the most of everything, even if it’s cuddling up on the sofa watching a cringey Christmas film. One of the many things COVID has taught us, is not to take spending time with someone and being near them for granted, so it’s important to make the most of this time. Make sure you have a cosy blanket to hand, fluffy slipper socks and perhaps even some candles to set the mood.

  • Find the Best Hot Chocolates

Why not hit the town or high streets together and go on a mission of finding the best hot chocolates in town! This is a fun, adventure filled night and you could even keep score of each hot chocolate you drink. Perhaps you could take it in turns as to who picks where to go next, and the person who picks the place where the hot chocolate is the best wins. And it’s up to both of you to decide how that person will be rewarded.

  • Volunteer Together

Christmas is a family-orientated time for many, but for homeless people and those on the streets it’s not. It’s filled with cold, dark days and unhappy times. Charities like Crisis provide homeless people with accommodation over a period of time during Christmas and you and your partner can volunteer in a variety of roles such as: activities, catering, health and wellbeing, connecting people or being general volunteers. This is a great way to help others and spend time with one another, while looking after people who need it.

  • Gingerbread House Decorating Competition

This is another fun-filled competition and you could even invite friends round to participate in a gingerbread decorating competition. This is a great way to spend time with your SO and with your friends too, because we all know that it’s important your friends get on with your SO! After the decorating has finished, you could vote to see who has the best gingerbread house.

  • DIY Christmas Decorations

This is a really nice way to spend time with one another and you both get to create something and keep it after. This is a good idea regardless of where you are in your relationship, whether that’s the first few months or a couple of years. You could give each other your Christmas decorations or save it as a moving in present for later years. There’s lots of ideas on pinterest and places like Hobbycraft have everything you need to create your Christmas decorations.

Hopefully these Christmas date ideas have given you some inspiration, and if you end up doing any, let us know!
