With a possible engagement, a lads’ weekend and of course, the arrival of the royal baby, there have been plenty of happenings in the royal family this summer. Here, HCX gives you a lowdown of how our royals spent Summer 2013:

It’s a boy!

On July 22nd we welcomed to the world, His Royal Highness Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge.  The most anticipated royal event since Wills and Kate got hitched back in April 2011, the people of Britain and the world’s media, watched and waited at the hospital doors for a glimpse of the little royal bundle of joy. The couple walked out to rapturous applause before laughing and joking with the press and speaking of the overwhelming love they felt for their new addition to the family. Kate Middleton perfectly illustrated the term “yummy mummy” in a gorgeous polka dot dress, beaming with pride, whilst she clung tightly to the bouncing baby boy in her arms. We just can’t wait to see this little angel grow up into the heartbreaker he was born to be!

Lads on Tour

Less than a month after Prince George’s birth, our favourite new daddy spent a wild weekend away in Exeter. Yes you read it right, Exeter. If there’s anything to convince you that you’ve come to the right university, it’s that our future King may have thrown some shapes on the Timepiece d-floor. Wills was also seen enjoying a spot of surfing at Saunton Sands in North Devon as part of friend James Meade’s stag do.

Yummy Mummy

Kate, once again, showed the nation how fabulous she is at her first official appearance since the birth of her son.  Looking effortlessly glamorous, she joined husband Prince William to meet competitors at the beginning of Anglesey’s three-day marathon and chatted away happily about their “little rascal”. This is the last official engagement the couple attended before their relocation to London; of the move William said they will both miss Anglesey terribly.

Royal Wedding: Take Two?

Could we be set for round two of a vintage royal match? Rumours are rife that Prince Andrew and Fergie may be rekindling their romance after holidaying together in Spain. The Queen even reportedly invited Sarah Ferguson up to Balmoral this summer.  Here at Her Campus we’d love to see another royal wedding on the cards although Prince Phillip may not share our feelings having once described Fergie as “odd” and “pointless”. Eek.

Put on a ring on it

Before we resign ourselves to the inevitable lack of royal news due to Wills and Kate being up to their eyeballs in nappies and dummies, we must turn our attention to Middleton number two. Allegedly, Pippa has been waiting to reveal her engagement to stockbroker Nico Jackson since July and the arrival of her nephew. The couple recently spent time together in Mustique where Nico reportedly popped the question! Hopefully we can expect an announcement in the not too distant future… then we can start imagining the dress.

Katie is a fourth year English Literature and Spanish student and General Culture Editor for HCX. She has recently returned from a glorious year abroad in Spain, first spending 5 months at Córdoba University, and then 5 months as Content & Editorial Assistant at Splendia, a luxury travel company in Barcelona. While she is definitely missing the sun, sea and sangria, Katie is so happy to be back in Old Blighty spending time with friends and family, going for country walks and enjoying her Mum's marvellous cooking. Having been an editor for the launch year of Exeter's Branch of Her Campus she is keen to get stuck in again and continue the great success that HCX has had over the past year. Katie likes to think she's well qualified for the position of Culture Editor as she enjoys nights at the theatre, curling up with a cup of tea and a juicy book and most of all, indulging her dangerously sweet tooth. Katie is excited to start writing for Her Campus again and stop talking about herself in the third person - it's a truly odd experience.
