Spreading the Festive Cheer (on a Budget)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Exeter chapter.

It’s that time of year again (hasn’t it come around quickly?!) Amongst the sparkles, romance and Christmas magic there lies the small problem of our poor student finances. We wanted to offer some gift ideas for your loved ones that won’t break your bank balance.

1) Buy a reasonably large glass jar (think poundland/poundsaver) and fill it with personal notes for a loved one. Add a bit of girly touch and instruct the recipient to read the note cards whenever they are feeling down. Eureka – an easy and personal Christmas present for less than the cost of a VK.

2) Create some homemade vouchers owing favours to a family member or friend. Offer to cook your housemates a meal, drive your brother to a social occasion or do the ironing for your parents. Again, with a bit of decorative touch these are a fab way to show appreciation for your loved ones

3) If paper gifts don’t appeal to you, reach out to your inner Nigella and summon those culinary skills. Even the most incompetent of chefs (me being one of them) can attempt these adorable festive snacks.

4) Another idea is to create a photo collage – the free app ‘FreePrints’ allows you to print as many pictures as you like, and only charges for the cost of postage. Head down to Wilko’s for a cheap photo frame and fill it with memories of you and your friends.

 5) Available on eBay for the small price of £6.71 AND with the added bonus of free delivery, these colour changing shower heads are an awesome Christmas present idea for the friend who has everything. Who wouldn’t want to feel like they’re in a disco while showering?

So there you have it! 5 Super Simple Ideas to make your loved ones feel special without forcing you to cringe at your non-existent bank balance!
