You may not have noticed…but the weather’s been pretty awful recently. If you’re not battling your way to campus in what appears to be the apocalypse, then you’re sitting at home wondering how much more your creaky, old student house can stand before it just collapses. To help you get through without giving up hope that Spring is on its way, HCX has compiled a list of great new tracks and some classic feel-good tunes to brighten up your rainy day.

This list wouldn’t be complete without Pharrell Williams’ hit song “Happy”, guaranteed to make the gloomiest day seem a hell of a lot brighter. Also, check out the longest music video we’ve ever seen at www.24hoursofhappy.com:

Set to be a huge summer tune, Duke Dumont and Jax Jones have sampled Whitney Houston’s classic “My Love is Your Love” creating the catchy “I Got U” which is bound to get you dancing:

Now, HCX knows that when the weather’s bad all you want to do is sing your heart out and feel a bit sorry for yourself. Katy B’s new track is the perfect choice, with a strong chorus and a great beat to back it up:

And if Katy B doesn’t manage to tug at your heartstrings, then Christina Aguilera and A Great Big World’s “Say Something” will definitely do the trick. A simple piano track supports the powerful main vocals making it a rainy day favourite:

On a rainy day there’s nothing better than baking some goodies, and whilst baking there’s nothing better than a good sing-a-long. A couple of old school classics can provide the best backing track to your theatrical Mary Berry moment…

Firstly, McFly’s “Five Colours in her Hair” will certainly put a smile on your face:

And secondly, remember when Miley wasn’t crazy? No, neither do we – but this is what it looked and sounded like:

To top it all off you can’t go wrong with a bit of Queen B. Her new song XO went down a storm at this year’s Brit Awards and Her Campus Exeter can see exactly why:

With a bit of luck, these tunes will manage to bring a bit of sunshine into your life until the real deal makes an appearance!

Katie is a fourth year English Literature and Spanish student and General Culture Editor for HCX. She has recently returned from a glorious year abroad in Spain, first spending 5 months at Córdoba University, and then 5 months as Content & Editorial Assistant at Splendia, a luxury travel company in Barcelona. While she is definitely missing the sun, sea and sangria, Katie is so happy to be back in Old Blighty spending time with friends and family, going for country walks and enjoying her Mum's marvellous cooking. Having been an editor for the launch year of Exeter's Branch of Her Campus she is keen to get stuck in again and continue the great success that HCX has had over the past year. Katie likes to think she's well qualified for the position of Culture Editor as she enjoys nights at the theatre, curling up with a cup of tea and a juicy book and most of all, indulging her dangerously sweet tooth. Katie is excited to start writing for Her Campus again and stop talking about herself in the third person - it's a truly odd experience.
