As the temperatures drop and hours of sunlight decrease, your wardrobe is not the only thing which needs to adapt. Your skincare routine becomes even more important to protect your face against the elements. Everyone dreams of having dewy skin which is immune to the effects of the winter so here is a beauty regime to help make this possible, reducing dryness and blemishes.

Moisturise

As the air in the winter tends to be cold your skin can become increasingly dry. To counteract this you may want to switch to a heavier moisturiser to hydrate your skin more efficiently. Even if your skin is naturally oily or acne-prone, there are plenty of rich moisturizers, which will hydrate your skin without affecting its appearance.

Budget: Nivea Visage Aqua Day Cream will wake up any dull complexion

Wish List: Estee Lauder offers a range of heavy or light moisturizers to adapt to all skin types

Exfoliate

Removing dead skin cells from your face will allow your moisturizer to soak in better and allow your skin to heal and adapt to the colder weather. However, as your skin will be notably more sensitive at this time of year, avoid using harsh or irritable products.

Budget: Simple have a range of scrubs and exfoliators which will work for even the most sensitive skin types

Wish List: REN offer a variety of finely grained gentle exfoliators

Water

Drinking plenty of water can also keep skin hydrated and help avoid the effects of the cold weather. Although it may be tempting to take long hot showers to take away the chill of the winter, this draws the moisture out of your skin. Instead opt for warm and shorter showers followed by a heavy application of moisturiser to lock in hydration.

Lip balm

Keep lips moisturised with lip balm. A gentle exfoliator can also help to remove the dry skin and avoid lips becoming cracked. Lipsticks can further dry out your lips so layer lip balm under and over the top of lipstick.

Budget: Blistex or Vaseline are undoubtedly two of the best lip balms

Wish List: Many high profile brands such as Chanel and Dior now offer lip balms which compliment lipsticks and avoid your lips drying out

Makeup

As people often wear more foundation and face makeup in the winter it is important to make sure that this is properly removed at the end of the day with face wipes and cleanser.
