Kiss me Quick!: Get kissable lips this Valentines

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Exeter chapter.

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, love is most definitely in the air at Exeter. The girls at Her Campus agree that the best way to warm yourself up in the chilly weather is with a steamy kiss from your boyfriend, or from a handsome stranger in Arena. So forget splashing out on a new dress, there’s a simple way to attract, and that is with your lips. Women have been enticing men for centuries with a sexy pout: wasn’t it 16th century heartthrob Romeo that said ‘Sin from thy lips? O trespass sweetly urged! Give me my sin again.’ Although you may not hear such sweet words from a guy these days, you can definitely get them excited this Valentine’s Day with a bit of special attention to your mouth. Of course, we all know boys hate a sticky lip gloss and this cold weather does your lips no favours, so we have found some boy-friendly products that will make you feel fabulous and ensure that you get the perfect kiss this year.

Single Ladies

Red lipstick is a Valentine’s Day favourite and if you’re single, there’s no better way to turn heads. Lipsticks can dry out your lips, but luckily we have found that L’oreal’s Rouge Caresse is very moisturising and it comes in an array of colours, including the stunning Rebel Red (the name says it all doesn’t it?). At £8.19 it’s a bargain compared to other brands! Another fantastic product that’s perfect for a bit of close contact with your Valentine is Clinque’s Chubby Stick collection. The mixture of balm and lipstick makes it a strong choice for the night and you won’t have to keep reapplying. Also the rainbow of colours are great for standing out on the dance floor, so it’s well worth the £16.00.

Date Night

If you’re going on a date, we would recommend a more understated lip gloss: you’ve already got your man and it’s best to avoid heavy lipsticks when you’re eating. Also, a bit of sparkle will shimmer beautifully in the candlelight. Benefit’s Dandelion Ultra Plush lip gloss (£13.95) is a very classy choice. Less is more and this sheer and sexy shade will definitely have him begging for more. It’s also very creamy and gives your pout a healthy sheen.  If you fancy a splash of colour, L’oreal’s Glam Shine gloss (£7.69) also has a nourishing texture, feels very light, and comes in a plethora of colours. With this choice you’ll have your date eating out of the palm of your hand.

Between the sheets

So the night has flown by, you’ve been well and truly knocked off your feet and there’s more of your lipstick on your date than there left is on you (you know where this is going.) Before things get hot and heavy, give your lips the kiss of life by applying some of Magpie’s Vanilla lip balm which is £4.95. The heavenly smell will drive him wild, and your mouth will be softer than ever. Also, if you feel naked without a bit of colour, Benefit’s Posietint (£24.95) will give your lips a rosy pink tint that will hold throughout the night ahead. So Happy Valentine’s Day ladies and happy kissing!

Lily Houghton is in her final year at Exeter studying English. With an unhealthy addiction to shopping, and unparalled knowledge of Exeter's retail sector, the role of Fashion and Beauty Editor seemed to be made for Lily, and her parents were thrilled she channelled her energy towards something that didn't involve spending money. Whilst her goal of bringing the catwalks of Milan and Paris to the sunny south of England may be slighty ambitious, she also hopes to banish the jeans/flip-flop trend from campus once and for all, and impose an immediate expulsion rule on anyone seen in daylight in a onesie. Contradictory to many women interested in fashion, she loves cake, her Ugg boots, and spending an afternoon immersed in an Emily Dickinson anthology. She hopes to travel America before going into the fashion industry, although she still hasn't come to terms with just how soon she will be graduating.
