Name: Kareem Raslan

Year: 2nd year

Degree: BA Economics

Activities involved with on campus: I’m a member of the Arabic society and am captain of the Arab soc football team, as well as being a volleyball enthusiast!

Ideal night out in Exeter: Having an absolutely ram-packed prelash at mine, followed by taxis down to Mosaic, getting a guestlist to go straight upstairs and just generally seeing most of Exeter out!

What you look for in a girl: For me, one of the most important things in a girl is their personality. If you’re going to be spending a lot of time on your own with someone you’ve got to be able to get along with them, no matter what they look like. So someone with a sense of humour that smiles a lot. I’d say looks are important, but it’s definitely not the be all and end all, so emphasis on the smile, laughter and sense of being fun!

What turns you off in a girl? The biggest turn off for me would most likely be arrogance – someone that thinks they’re too good for somebody else. I think being humble is important – you never know who you could get along with if you just gave them a chance!

Most inspirational person in your life: Without sounding cliché, the most influential person in my life is my brother; he’s always there whenever I need him, and often puts my needs ahead of his own. He always pushes me to try and achieve everything he thinks I can achieve.

Where you see yourself in 5 years’ time: In five years time I see myself having graduated and working in the City, and fingers crossed living the high life! But on a more serious note, working hard and hopefully still enjoying life.

Favourite place in the world: Not many of you will have heard of it, but the town of Homs in Syria. My dad was born and brought up there, and it’s absolutely tiny. You can walk from one side to the other in half an hour, and everyone knows everyone. It’s always sunny, and you always come back with a wicked tan!

Confession: It’s lame, but I collect lapel pins… and have collected over 100 so far!

Chiara is a half-British, half-Spanish second year student at the University of Exeter studying a BA in English Literature and French, and is currently undergoing a year abroad studying in Brussels, Belgium. She is an aspiring fashion journalist and one day hopes to set up her own magazine. In addition to being Style Editor of The Flaneur magazine in London and Fashion & Beauty Editor of Her Campus Exeter, Chiara writes regularly for the fashion and lifestyle sections of Zeitgeist Magazine, Exeposé Newspaper and Barcelona’s Splendia.com. When not indulging in all things fashion, such as helplessly giving in to an unhealthy obsession with Zara clothing, Chiara plays tennis regularly and enjoys travelling. If she could interview anyone in the world it would be the Duchess of Cambridge, for whom she has much respect and admiration.
Georgie Hazell is a final year Anthropology and International Politics student at the University of Exeter, UK. Georgie became involved with Her Campus during her semester studying abroad at the College of William & Mary, along with Rocket (the campus fashion magazine), Trendspotters (the campus fashion TV show) and Tri Delta sorority. She hopes to pursue a career in media or marketing in the future. Georgie has a passion for travel and experiencing new cultures, and spent five months travelling the world on her Gap Year.
