Now, we aren’t saying you’ve got to be happy and on top form 24-7 however, with Mental Health Awareness Week not too far away, we want to share our tips with you on how you can make yourself feel good this term.
Sleep
Students seem to be pretty good at not getting enough sleep, when we’re at the stage when we will probably benefit from it the most. You are far from your best self when functioning on a few hours sleep. Sleep is essential to our health and wellbeing. A lack of sleep can affect anything from our memories, mood, cardiovascular health and even our metabolism and weight. It’s also important to have a healthy sleeping habit, going to bed at a reasonable time and getting up when the day is still young.
Eat Breakfast
Once you’ve conquered your sleeping pattern its time to move on to how you start your day. Starting your day with a healthy, nutritional breakfast sets you up for the day ahead and improves your outlook on the day considerably. Maybe that stint in the library isn’t going to be so bad after all?
Music
Listening to some of your favourite music, whether its calming or not, can improve your mood massively. According to a recent study at Montreal University music has been scientifically proven to release mood-enhancing chemicals in the brain. Music releases the chemical – dopamine into the body which is known to produce a feel-good state in response to certain tangible stimulants – music being one of them.

Pamper Yourself
We can’t all afford a luxurious spa day but pampering yourself from the comfort of your own room can release all the tension from your day and relax you – just in time for your nights sleep. Why not try a face mask, painting your nails or having a bubble bath to relieve yourself of your troubles.
Reflection
Taking a few moments to yourself at the end of a busy day is key to making yourself feel great. Try and reflect on the good things that have happened that day or things you’ve got to look forward too. Doing this each day can give you a much more positive outlook on life.
Drink Herbal Teas
Nature is filled with herbs and spices that contain naturally occurring healing properties, and some of these herbs can be extremely beneficial in relaxing your mind and body. For example, chamomile tea is known for inducing a feeling of relaxation when ingested. The reason for this is the presence of amino acid L-theanine which has a sedative-like effect on the body. Green tea, peppermint and lavender tea are also great relaxers.
These simple steps not only help you feel good about yourself but are also key for you to being comfortable and happy in your own skin and in time will help you maintain that positive outlook on life
