Her Campus Exeter’s Music Crush of The Week – Bondax

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Exeter chapter.

Creating their own brand of funky, chilled and soul-soothing house Bondax are the freshest thing to hit the dance-music scene since Disclosure captivated our ears a couple of years ago.  If you haven’t heard of this incredibly talented duo yet, we promise, you soon will.

Having only met 3 years ago in the deepest depths of rural Lancashire (or as George puts bluntly – in the middle of nowhere) when both were just 16, producer George and musician Adam have been making beautiful music together ever since. Refusing to be confined to any particular genre of music, these boys have fused together elements of bass, soul, garage and just about everything in between to produce a caramel-smooth sound that has been described as ‘like a hundred orgasms layered on top of each other’. Bit explicit but actually fairly accurate!

Having started off sampling tracks they found on YouTube in their bedrooms, George and Adam have gone on to create not only ridiculously addictive mixes (be warned once you’ve started listening to their XL8LR mix, those headphones won’t be coming off for a good few hours ladies!), incredibly seductive vocal tracks such as ‘Baby I Got That’, but also tunes that are guaranteed to get you hyped for a night out – even if you’re tucked up in bed. Not content with having captured our hearts and our headphones with their liquid-gold beats, creating their own record label AND having already toured both England and the US at the tender age of 19 the duo have set their sights on something new.

Their latest sound has much more of an ambient, acoustic vocal-driven vibe to it; and last weekend we had the pleasure of experiencing this for ourselves at Bristol’s most unique (if not a little bizarre) venue – The Old Crown Courts. In the midst of creating their first ever album, that will showcase this more lyrical side to their style, the boys are also side-stepping their traditional roles as DJ’s in favour of their first live tour (think haunting vocals, acoustic guitars and the occasional xylophone).

The abandoned, nostalgic air that this ‘court turned pop-up space’ exudes with its peeling wall-paper, intricate Victorian masonry and empty witness boxes blended with the sexy sounds of Bondax to create the kind of gig dreams are made of.  As the boys dispensed their music from the judge’s bench, and the audience got up in the jury box and galleries to dance the night away, it felt like we were at the most secret and illicit house-party, absolutely magic.

So girls, whether you think you like ‘house music’ or not, throw your preconceptions out the window and give Bondax a listen – we here at Her Campus guarantee you’ll be rewarded with some of the sweetest tunes you’ve heard this year. And if you find you’ve fallen head over heels for them just like we have then you’ll be happy to know they’re set to tour around the UK with the equally awesome London Grammar in the New Year. Get listening ladies! Have a listen to their latest track here.
