It is ONE month until Christmas and it is safe to say here at Her Campus, we are feeling pretty festive so we decided to round up our favourite Christmas adverts to help everyone to get into the spirit!

1. John Lewis (2013)

Set to “Somewhere Only We Know”, sung by Lily Allen, this advert is both a heartbreaking and heartwarming tale. The advert opens with the words: “There was once an animal who had never seen Christmas”. In this story, Hare and Bear are watching the animals of the forest getting ready for Christmas. As Bear leaves to hibernate, Hare becomes sad that Bear is the only animal who has never seen Christmas, as he has to hibernate every year. The night before Christmas, Hare sneaks into Bear’s cave and leaves a special gift. The final scene reveals all the animals, celebrating Christmas under a massive, beautifully lit tree, while Hare watches on sadly because Bear is not there to see it. Suddenly, like something out of your favorite rom-com, Bear comes over the snow-covered hill and you see his face lit up with pure wonder and delight as he beholds the magical tree. This is a truly touching advert, even the Grinch would find his heart swelling in size at this advert.

2.  BBC1 (2011)

Christmas jumpers galore! Featuring the biggest stars of BBC1 singing “Consider Yourself”, this advert will make you feel right at home as the cast celebrate a traditional family christmas with carols, crackers, mince pies and family games. This amusing advert perfectly captures the spirit of a crazy family Christmas Day, and will definitely get you in the Christmas spirit (and probably make you want to go out and buy a Christmas jumper immediately).

3. Coca Cola (2010)

Imagine living inside a snow globe. Now imagine Santa looking over you making sure you get your happy Christmas. What a magical world that would be. Set to the iconic “Shake Up Christmas” this advert will definitely leave you feeling warm, fuzzy and Christmassy inside so “wake up the happiness, come on it’s Christmas time!”

4. John Lewis (2012)

John Lewis describes this advert as a celebration of “the extra mile we all go to at Christmas to find the perfect gift”. This adverts opens in a snow-covered garden where two children are making a snowman and a snowwoman. The next morning the snowman mysteriously disappears and we see him undergo an epic journey across fields, mountains , rivers, finally arriving in a scary, bustling city. The last scene sees the return of the rather disheveled snowman on Christmas morning with a special gift. Set to the “Power of Love” sung by the magnificent Gabrielle Aplin, this advert (like that of 2013) is a truly heartbreaking and heartwarming tale.

5.  Marks and Spencers (2013)

Starring the stunning Rosie Huntington-Whitely, this advert is a Christmas fairytale come to life. The advert opens with Rosie chasing a little white dog down a cobbled road who leads her down the rabbit hole into a magical world of fairytales. Firstly, Rosie crashes an Alice in Wonderland tea party only to be chased away by the Red Queen’s playing cards. Like Little Red Riding Hood, she ends up in the forest being chased by the Big Bad Wolf, which leads her to a beautifully decorated gingerbread house where she is then whisked away on a magical carpet like Aladdin, only to arrive like Dorothy on the Yellow Brick Road. Also starring Helena Bonham Carter as the Wizard of Oz, this advert manages to capture both the magic and sparkle of Christmas.
