HCX’s 15 Flicks For A Girly Movie Night

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Exeter chapter.

What can be better than a Girls’ Night Out? A Girls’ Night In, obviously! Who doesn’t want to have some pampering after a long week of lectures and assignments? You get to hangout and spoil yourself with your girlfriends, whilst catching up on all the gossip that you have gathered over the week. All you need to do is choose the right films for your movie marathon.

Do not stress, HCX have got that part sorted…

1.  Mean Girls:

It is safe to say that Mean Girls is definitely the Bible of recent chick flicks. Whether you have watched this enough times to be able to quote every character or you have never heard of it before (although that’s quite impossible), this movie is a must have on every chick-flick list.

2. Clueless:

Throw back to the 90’s with this classic chick flick. Whether the characters you ship end up together or not, you can swoon over young Paul Rudd and envy every single one of Cher’s outfits. *Looks at own closet and sighs.*

3. Pitch Perfect (1 and 2):

Do you truly revel in jamming out to pop music? If so, you and your girlfriends will love singing along to the Barden Bellas’ performances. Plus, both these movies are about GIRL POWER. Also, there’s Fat Amy being the hilarious boss that she is. Major confidence goals right there.

4. Magic Mike:

Channing Tatum. Dancing. Shirtless. A lot. Need I say any more?

5. The Sisterhood of The Travelling Pants (1 and 2):

If only your best friend’s trendy new jeans fit you perfectly too! This movie will make you reminisce your summer before university, while its sequel will inspire you to pick up the phone and plan a meet up with your high school friends ASAP.

6. 27 Dresses:

Major inspiration for your wedding board on Pinterest.

7. Just My Luck:

Whether you have been having a brilliant week or breaking down under all those due assignments, you will be able to relate to Ashley (Lindsay Lohan) in this rom-com. Other plus points include Chris Pine and fetus McFly.

8. The Fault in Our Stars:

Personally, I’ve only watched this once because I’m still not prepared to handle the feels all over again. But if you are looking for tear-fest and going “awww” over everything Gus (Ansel Elgort) says, add this one to your list.

9. Flipped:

This is one of those flicks that will hit you everywhere in the feels. Friendship, family and young romance, this one has it all. Keep a couple (or several) tissues in handy.

10. Carrie (2014):

If you’re over predictable love stories and are into some sci-fi and horror, this adaptation of Stephen King’s novel starring Chloé Grace Moretz and Ansel Elgort (SWOON) is the perfect fit for your night. Warning: a generous amount of blood involved.

11. The DUFF:

Although quite cliché, Bianca (the protagonist), does not have a major makeover to have everyone fall in love with her. A fun movie perfect for a chick flick night.

12. Legally Blonde:

This one might have made it to the list because I am a Law student. But in all seriousness, this gem is bursting with girl power, plus Elle is such an adorable charatcter.

13. John Tucker Must Die:

If a guy’s broken your heart recently, this one is a must on your list. Just do not plan to actually kill him though. Please.

14. Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging:

If you’re embarrassed about your first kiss, laugh it off while watching this hilarious movie.

15. Bratz:

I do not care whether you watch the animated ones or the one with actual people, Bratz will always have a special place in my heart. They wear rad outfits, do the coolest stuff and are best friend goals. What’s not to like? Their big heads are not valid excuses.

So there you have it – stock up on your favourite snacks, don your comfiest PJ’s or onesie, and let the films begin!

I am the Editor for Culture here at Her Campus Exeter. I love long walks (to the fridge, of course), and binge watching chick flicks. Mean Girls is my favourite movie and I quote it way more frequently than I should. I am a second year Law student trying to adult but occasionally failing at it.
