News flash…results are in from HCX’s first ever Sex and Relationships Survey and if you are reading this article revision is about to get a whole lot steamier. Last term, we asked you the intimate details of your sex lives and with over 400 of you more than happy to oblige we have managed to acquire some very interesting results. With such a fantastic response, we felt it was only kind to share. Last week we focused on the ‘Relationships Part’ of the survey, and this week our attention moves to the more scandalous side of our survey- the sex part.
According to the Student Beans 2012 Sex Survey, Exeter is the 39th most sexually active university in the country. Despite this, HCX would argue we definitely give the other universities a run for their money when it comes to the bedroom. Since starting university, 9% of people who took our survey claimed to have had sex with more than 10 sexual partners with 72% of those being in their second year. The average number of sexual partners was 1-2 receiving 39.11% of the vote. In an average term, 37% of our participants said they have sex twice a week, and that these frolics in the bedroom occurred most commonly when they were in a relationship (77.9%) or after a night out (13.2 %).
When asking you what you would like to change about your sex life, there were varied responses. Just over 11% of people felt their sex lives were perfectly fine and that there was nothing they would like to change. However, a whopping 61.5% of the participants (boy and girls included) claimed they had to fake it to make it, with 24.8% saying they wanted to orgasm more. Finally just over 100 people who took our survey said that they wished their sex would be more adventurous.

Speaking of adventure, it would seem that we at Exeter are quite the Christian Grey’s, and Anastasia Steel’s of the bedroom with 42% of those responding saying they had used props in the bedroom. Whilst, HCX have often thought that porn was usually reserved to the male specimens of the world, 67% of people that we surveyed said that they had watched porn with 10% of those responses saying that they do so over 3 times a week. Similarly, 25.8% of those that we surveyed said on average they masturbated once a week, with the 63.7% of the male responses we receiving saying they did so more than three times a week.
Winner of the favourite sex position was the classic missionary position with 25% of the vote, closely followed by doggie style that received 21.3%. Less popular however was the reverse cowgirl receiving less that 3% of the vote. Oral sex took the gold for champion of foreplay with 42.4% of those that we interviewed marking it as their favourite pre-sex activity. On average, most of those that took our survey said that they preferred sober sex and opposed to drunk and we can see why- falling out of bed is not sexy.
It would seem that we are pretty confident when it comes to the sex department with a measly 4.9% of people surveyed saying that they did not believe that they were good in bed. Furthermore, sexual health in Exeter is pretty good with over 92.6% of those who replied saying that they have never had an STI. That being said, you should never take the risk so please remember to practice safe sex so we can keep this statistic low.
