Following those tantalizing Instagram posts from the woman herself, and of course the infamous hashtag #seeyousunday, it has finally been unveiled; the Cara Delevingne Collection. Luxury fashion house Mulberry have teamed up with fashionâs it girl Cara Delevingne and designed a capsule bag collection, their first since 2008 when they launched the Lana Del Ray line.
Of course a partnership as high-profile as this needed to be officially announced with an appropriately amazing event; and they did not disappoint. A top secret launch was held at Claridgeâs on Sunday, with Cara herself showcasing her designs in what looked like a piece of magical performance art, swinging on an ethereal swing on a set designed by Dior collaborator Michael Howell.Â
As you may have expected this is not just any old traditional handbag range, this one has Caraâs stamp all over it, literally. Each bag has âMade in Englandâ imprinted on the bottom, nodding towards the tattoo that Miss Delevingne has on the sole of foot. Along with this, they all contain a gold lion rivet and a heart shape patch hidden inside, representing her tattoos of a similar design. The inspiration behind this innovative touch is that the model wanted each bag to be like opening a letter with a lovely surprise and said âI wanted there to be hidden gems inside, based on things that are personal to me, which my tattoos definitely areâ- so girls if youâre lucky enough to get your hands on one of these beauties it will be like a gift from Cara herself!
The collection is a truly creative collaboration, mixing British heritage with London cool. With the range being dubbed as âfashionably functionalâ due to its rucksack, handheld and shoulder strap you can reassure yourself that while youâre wrestling with the decision of whether to spend your student loan (and your overdraft) or not you would actually be getting 3 bags for the price of 1- which is good to know because the range starts at ÂŁ890 and goes up to ÂŁ2,500 so at least youâll be getting your moneyâs worthâŠ.
So, what do these soon-to-be iconic bags look like? There is the khaki or the monochrome Camouflage Haircalf, the green, black, or indigo Quilted Nappa, and finally the limited edition Taupe Silky Classic Calf with lion rivets. Cara has been quoted saying that even her 102 year old Granny would like these bags, so donât be afraid to shy away from these bold prints ladies!
Like many of us Exeter girls, Caraâs first designer bag was a Mulberry creation – so remember that when youâre striding up forum hill clutching your Bayswater, Cara Delevingne was once like us too.
