Dress to Impress at Your End of Season Dinner

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Exeter chapter.

With the Easters holidays fast approaching, the end of term brings one last outburst of fun before revision. That’s right ladies; it’s time to put on your heels and dance the night away at your End of Season Dinner. Also, with events such as the Enchanted Garden Ball tickets going on sale this month as well, you should definitely start planning your outfit early. If you’re not sure whether you want to go long or short, patterned or plain, or floaty or bodycon, luckily for you Her Campus has assembled a few of our favourite party outfits to make looking for the perfect dress a bit easier. So you’ll be able to get back to those essays in no time…

Look Stunning in Sparkles

As we all know, diamonds really are a girl’s best friend, so why not stand out from the crowd with a bit of shimmer at your end of season dinner? Sequins and embellishment will make you feel extra special and glamorous, so they are perfect for celebrating at the end of term. This silver beaded bodycon from Miss Selfridge is worth every penny at £79, and is a beautiful and sophisticated dress that captures some of the star quality that we have been seeing on the red carpet recently. It will look great in the summer sunshine, but also remember that you can wear it again in the winter with darker make-up and accessories. Stay on trend with SS13 and wear it with coral lips, and you’ll be ready for the fun to commence.

Pull off a Print

The SS13 catwalk showed off an eclectic mix of patterns and prints which are a great way to stand out at an event. The Bottega Veneta show was a perfect example of this, combining different patterned and textured materials to create ultra-modern and edgy looks. This Miss Selfridge dress (£42) incorporates contrasting patterns with this season’s key monochrome trend to transform a simple dress into a show-stopper. Wear with brightly coloured heels and an up-do for maximum impact.

Feeling Tickled Pink?

Don’t worry ladies, you won’t look like a Barbie if you opt for this girly shade. Pearly, pastel pinks have been a prominent feature on the red carpet recently, with Jennifer Lawrence and Anne Hathaway both wearing gowns in a subtle shade of pink at the Oscars. Even better, to channel this award winning look, hold back on the fake tan and embrace your natural skin tone for a beautiful and classy look à la Jennifer and Anne. This Topshop dress (£38) is simple and classic, but has an edgy twist with the cut-out and knotted back. You’ll feel super feminine and classy in this gorgeous gown.

The Power of the Platform

If you’re hoping to re-use a dress you already have, try accessorizing with a new pair of on-trend heels. Platform sandals are all over the high street this season and were a key trend to the Erdem SS13 show.  A brightly coloured or patterned platform with a chunky heel can add a bit of fun to a plain dress and they are definitely comfier than sky-high stilettos. ASOS platforms (£45) will update your favourite LBD but can equally be teamed with a bright dress for some trendy colour blocking.

Look Cool in Coral

Coral is the colour of the summer, and perfect for making a statement at a black tie event. We loved Rihanna in her red maxi-dress at the Grammys and can’t wait to follow in her footsteps, embracing the bold, bright and beautiful this summer. To channel Rihanna’s orange cut-out number for your end of season dinner, try this red cut-out tube dress from Misguided (£27.99) and team with bangles, a red lip and your most bling dangly earrings.
